ISLAMABAD: More evidence of rigging in the general elections came to light on Wednesday after a National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) report revealed that only 10,007 of the 92,748 votes cast in the Karachi constituency PS-114 were genuine and verifiable, Express News reported.
The report, which was received by the Election Tribunal on Wednesday, revealed that 63,469 votes were unverifiable, 14,234 were cast on fake NICs whereas 378 did not even belong to the constituency.
Irfanullah Khan Marwat of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had won the elections for PS-114 with over 37, 000 votes.
Runner-up Abdur Rauf Siddiqui of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) challenged Marwats victory claiming the polls were rigged.
Siddiqui obtained an order from the tribunal on August 3 for verification of voters thumb impressions by NADRA, which has now proved his claims right.
The returning and president officer who conducted the elections in PS-114 will now be summoned to court and asked to explain the adulteration.
Lawyers from both Marwat and Siddiquis sides will be called to the Election Tribunal and a decision taken on whether or not elections will be re-conducted here.
NADRA has previously uncovered a massive number of unverifiable votes in the constituencies NA-258 and NA-256, which were claimed by PML-Ns Abdul Hakeem Baloch and MQMs Iqbal Mohammad Ali respectively.
