An image purportedly showing the Nokia Normandy Android prototype has been published online on Chinese social network Weibo (via WPCentral), with user WPDang saying that the rumored Android phone does not have Nokia branding on the front and back, as a previous image leak from @evleaks suggested. The Nokia Normandy is supposed to be the first Android handset from the company, although the Finnish smartphone maker is said to fork Android in a similar manner as Amazon does with its Kindle Fire OS. However, the interface of the device is blurred in the image below.

The phone is not expected to offer access to the Google Play Store or to be a flagship device. Instead it will likely address the low-end smartphone market alongside Nokia’s Asha devices that run Series 40 OS. Hardware details for the Normandy are not available at this time, but the image suggests the handset will have dual SIM capabilities and feature a single capacitive button.

Even though there have been a few rumors and reports on the Normandy, including these image leaks, it’s not clear whether Nokia will actually launch an Android phone, considering the imminent Microsoft acquisition of the company’s mobile division.

If this news is true, then awesome news :yahoo: because nokia is a reliable then samsung they should have brought Android based sets series long ago.

Why it wont offer Google Play? :what:

Now that Microsoft own Nokia why would they support windows 8 main rival?

I'd say it is highly doubtful that Nokia will be allowed to release this seeing as they were recently taken over by Microsoft (makers of Windows Phone OS) This is a case of something that would have come into fruition had it not been for corporate overlords slamming the hammer down. Sad, because Windows Phone OS is terrible.

If Microsoft is wise then they will launch this kind of set to make sure that they have share in market and it will generate good revenues if they tie up some sort of deal with Amazon for having joint store or ability to share resources of devices and apps.

To run cell phone units relying only on WP platform will be a mistake of Microsoft, they can keep WP based Lumia series as their flagship products but they can not ignore middle market segment of Smartphone which WP is not good for now. Microsoft can use Asha & Normandy series to capture share of this segment.
