Rape is a torture/domination instrument as well. It's despicable, that's the reason why it is easy to convert people in India, it opens up an escape route. The first people to convert to islam and christianity are often the so-called "low-castes". Your christian population is made up a lot of erstwhile hindus who were converted by christian evangelists during the days of raj.
Besides the constitution banning casteism, multiple hindu orgs have started dropping their casteist narratives to include all hindus.
