No takers for Pakistani 'Devdas'

It’s been two years since Pakistani producer and actor Nadeem Shah made his version of Devdas, starring Meera. However, the film is still lying in the cans after the Censor Board in Pakistan raised objections to certain scenes in the film and distributors refused to touch it thereafter.

According to the Karachi-based Shah, the board asked him to axe some drinking scenes and other elements in the film that are against religious sentiments in Pakistan. Shah alleges that since he refused to carry out the changes, his film failed to get a release there.

Says Shah, “I didn’t make my film to promote or disgrace any culture. But if I remove those scenes, my film will be incomplete. It will damage my project. Distributors told me since the film is based on the Hindu culture they were not interested. Unfortunately, certain sections of the society in Pakistan have not evolved to become the right audience

The producer feels that a lack of enough screens in his country has also contributed to his film not finding distributors. Shah explains, “The audience loves watching Bollywood films and distributors are on the lookout for films that have a big star cast after paying comparatively smaller prices.” Currently, Shah is in India to explore options to release his film here.

If the producer is not happy with pakistani 'awam', just **** off---and go somewhere else---that's very simple.

.
They should remake Dev D,I would love Dev D fully in Punjabi than like it was in India.

.
May be he should go straight to DVD insead of doing rounds of censor board.

dont worry we will put the blame on telugu cinema "tollywood"- you can now sleep in peace--

never knew tollywood is famous in pakistan too..

There is nothing such as Muslim culture or Hindu culture. This is rubbish from the censor board of Pakistan. Each person makes his own decisions, if India has its bicardi black then we Pakistanis too have our Muree brewery Zindabad. Muree brewery's beer is very much part of my Pakistani culture. Liberalism opens peoples minds to such things. It is our choice whether we choose to drink or not. It is also our choice if we want to watch a sharabi movie or not. No one has a right to tell another person what he or she should do.

However we all know the quality of lollywood movies aren't good. It was probably a flop movie from day one. Censorship only makes people want something more.

i dnt think they rejected the muv because of hindu culture persay if u read the statement carefully it said that some sections of audience are not evolved to accept it.they might have feared the law and order disruption

Personally, I could not be more pleased - those producers and directors and writers who do not have the courage or confidence to create original work, need to move to hackwood - out Indian the Indian? Why?

:D jab gujjar taggay, taili naee film banain gay to orginality kahan say aye gee.

:P

Why is Meera still acting? who made her popular?

The Election was not affair. if election was affair meera's mom would have won.
