Anything that is illegal becomes taboo, eventually. In every society. Prostitution isn't taboo in European countries where it's legal and well respected profession. Laws influence how people view different practices.

prostitution is taboo in most of europe, even where its legal. People just dont say 'just popping out to the red light area, back by dinner'. Not is prostitution a 'respected' profession. Its generally regularised and tolerated as necessary evil. People dont switch career to prostitution and back as if its just another 'respected' profession. Not many high profile member of society will say 'well I started my career as prostitute and then became manager...'

I just like it when Pakistanis lecture Indians about how India should be a secular country. Yet, at the same time, not to interfere in the personal matter of Muslims. How does being a secular country square with allowing a Muslim man to have more than one wife, especially in a country where all citizens are, technically, equal under the law? Oddly enough , the are polygamous couples in fringe counties within the US hiding under polyamory. But even the concept of polygamy is so misunderstood within Muslims that they see it only within the light of getting access to multiple vaginas legally.

Polygamy should be decriminalised but second marriage should not be accepted by court as valid marriage.
If anybody still live with such partner, its upto them.
Also divorce should be made easier in India, its really slow and painful. In Bangladesh(am told) an woman can start a divorce proceeding and it will be over in 3 months.

That is true. However - unlike the west, there is no receipt of husband's property (50% in the US).

Wives just separate and build an independent life (or mostly get re-married).
