We will need to lay pipelines from Gwadar Port to Western China and from Burma to Southern China to bypass the Straits of Malacca. Inevitably, PLAN will need to push back indian navy to its territorial waters to stop indian aggression. So we would likely see carrier-on-carrier combat between india and China toward the end of the decade as China cements its hold in indian ocean.

Pakistan and Sri Lankan make more sense as supply bases for Chinese navy. Besides, China does not have the ability to project power into Indian Ocean yet. Having a base without the ships would be like building a house that's too far to go live in, utterly pointless.
