Sending out a strong message on the occasion of Eid, clerics of the influential seminary announced that if any person with terror connections dies, the ‘namaz-e-janaza’ would not be read during burial services for him. (Representative Image)

BAREILLY: Clerics of the Dargah Ala Hazrat, the influential seminary here, have issued a new fatwa that bars the recital of burial prayers for any person associated with terrorism.

Sending out a strong message on the occasion of Eid, clerics of the influential seminary announced that if any person with terror connections dies, the 'namaz-e-janaza' would not be read during burial services for him. The prayer is important for Islamic last rites.

After the special Eid prayer was offered at the mosques, clerics of the Dargah asked their followers to boycott people associated with terrorism. "On the pious occasion of Eid, the Sunni Barelvi Markaz send a strong message that no maulana, mufti or other religious leader will read the 'namaz-e-janaza' for anyone associated with terrorism in any form. By this, we want to lodge a strong protest against terrorism," said Mufti Mohammed Salim Noori, general secretary, Tahreek-e-Tahaffuz Sunniat (TTS), which is a wing of Dargah Ala Hazrat. 'Namaz-e-janaza' is a special prayer offered by clerics seeking blessings for the deceased, and it is read before a burial.

The seminary is known for passing progressive fatwas, including in the recent past. As reported by TOI on July 18, clerics had passed a fatwa declaring that zakat, donations mandated by Islam, should go towards funding modern education and hi-tech gadgets as well. In another fatwa in June, clerics had decreed that women could run their own businesses, although they had to limit business dealings to other women.

You know nothing my dear ..

they are mortal enemies of each other ... :D

i don't see why... it's hardly the case that the barelvis are followers of saddam hussain.

but you should list how they are enemy to each other and their differences. ( edit : things other than the dargah stuff ).

As a secularist I am vehemantly against this on two grounds:-

1. Howsoever the wrong might be but it is not for the clerics to judge these people. Do this and your on the road to perdition. Assumption has to be made that the persons were Muslim however wrong in their ways and the alone qualifies the right to be buried according to Islamic tradition.

2. Since they are dead the question of punishment does not arise but indeed if it did that would within the realm of the state.

Of course I would support all clerics to teach their followers not to go down the road of wrongdoing.

What ever the criminal has done does not justify such extreme measures.

If offering Namaz-e-janaza is not acceptable for a terrorist then it should not be acceptable for a rapist, child molestor, murderer, thieves etc.

Every muslim has some basic religious regardless of his/her actions.

And what about madaresa-e-deobund deobundies who are a supporter and funding provider of deobundi maderresas and outfits which are directly involved and funding terrorism in Pakistan.

They are in India and they are having hard time after Modi took control of office and they are trying to coop up with their problems in this hostile environment. Unlike Deobundies they are not helping to spread terrorism here in Pakistan.

Sir,

The state has a right to order it----. An edict can passed to declare these people as faithless---and declare anyone dealing with these people as heretics----and then use the law of guilty by association---guilty by associating to offer a namaz a janaza---guilty by association to offer an Islamic burial after the edict has been passed.

It looks like they are always looking for new topics to make headlines

What is the benefit of all this. In my opinion it will just give another excuse to the extremist to influence to wage war against us non-believers.

Do that and your on road to perdition. Where does it stop? The state will be used by vested interests to leverage whatever each group thinks is the correcct interpretation of Islam.
