No Hindus will be left in Bangladesh after 30 years: researcher

Bengali Hindus are great buffer to spread Islam. See because of them BD is close to 100% Muslim and because of high number of Bengali Hindus, Muslims are protected in west bengal. But because of low number of Hindu Bengalis in Assam, Muslims are 50/50 persecuted. As there is no Hindu Bengalis in Arakan, Muslims are cleansed like there is no tomorrow.

Why are Bangladeshis upset about hindus going to west bengal or assam, after all isn't it good riddance for you guys.

You Indians to be perfectly frank are brain washed by hindutva propaganda.

Bangladeshis are proud to be Muslim and completely comfortable with our hybrid history. Bangladesh history is also composed of Hindus and christians and buddists and their place as part of the nation is not less than Muslims.

You have been taught that Muslims are just another foreign invading force and they must now be subjugated and the Muslims forced to convert to hinduism.

We on the other hand accept that Bangladesh experienced waves of different people, culture and ideas and we are product of this melting pot. All have an equal place, none is alien. It is this confidence and strength that allows me to defend proudly the Muslim orientation of BD and in the same breath say that Hindus have an equal place in the body politic of BD.

Bangladeshs religious cultural or political orientation or choices is of no interest to us. we interact with bangladeshi hindus all the time in west bengal, assam and elsewhere. If they are suffering religious prosecution in bangladesh or pakistan or any other country, we ll be glad to help them relocate to india and love well and good as much as we can. On the other hand,if they are doing fine then we are happy about it and wish them all the very best.

That's all.

Thats fine but i would suggest it is better to view people as people rather than simply just their religion. No one wants to be persecuted whether muslims in india or hindus in bangladesh. It is very simple for everyone to feel affinity towards their co-religionists but the region as a whole will not improve if we continue with this narrow minded attitude.

You should visit BD and meet the people, it may change your overall impression.

Dhaka: Eminent Bangladeshi economist and researcher Dr Abul Barkat has estimated that there will be no Hindus left in the country after three decades.

"The rate of exodus over the past 49 years points to that direction," the Dhaka University teacher said in his book "Political economy of reforming agriculture-land-water bodies in Bangladesh" published yesterday.

He said that from 1964 to 2013, around 11.3 million Hindus left Bangladesh due to religious persecution and discrimination, which means on an average 632 Hindus left the country each day and 230,612 annually, reports the Dhaka Tribune.

From his 30-year-long research, Barkat found that the exodus mostly took place during military governments after independence.

Before the Liberation War, the daily rate of migration was 705 while it was 512 during 1971-1981 and 438 during 1981-1991. The number increased to 767 persons each day during 1991-2001 while around 774 persons left the country during 2001-2012, the book says.

Another Professor Ajoy Roy said the government grabbed the properties of the Hindus during the Pakistan regime describing them as enemy property and the same properties were taken by the government after independence as vested property.

According to the book, these two measures made 60 percent of the Hindus landless.

Retired Justice Kazi Ebadul Haque said the minorities and the poor were deprived of their land rights adding that the land management system should be reformed.

Dhaka University Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed said that the government has to ensure that the indigenous people would not be affected or harmed.

baseless hindutva troll post

It will be disappointing if true.

I agree with you that hindus suffer at the hand of BAL but continue to vote for them and in many respect this block voting has caused them to be viewed by many as 5th columnists particularly when the Hindu community remains silent as BAL blames others for their misdeeds.

However they are BD citizens and their rights have to be protected. In a democracy anyone may vote as they like.

We should try and walk on their shoes. What choice to they have but to vote for BAL because if they do not they probably fear what BAL would do in retaliation. Hindus leaders need to impress on India if they have any sway there that the impression in delhi that BAL will safeguard hindus in BD is patently wrong.

Neither India nor BAL gives a damn about Hindus. Former wants hegemony in the region and the latter wants to illegally hold on to power. It does not matter to either whose and how much misery that causes.

Dude India intervened in '71 war only to protect our Hindu brothers. How can you say such a horrible thing that India doesn't care about Hindus :o:. We knew Hindus were getting slaughtered by Pakistan army so we had to intervene. We don't really care much about Bangladeshis. Hinduism binds Hindustan together and BD and Sindhi Hindus are an extension of that proud Hindu family. They are proud HINDUSTANIS. So don't say such things that we don't care about BD Hindus- they are our brothers and we are ready to spill blood if anyone persecutes them. Long live Hindu brotherhood

Actually religion especially organized ones do have a say in how a person thinks or behaves, sometimes it may not.i have no preconceived notions about bangladesh,i have met some people in Dubai, white and blue collared. But india is the only abode of hindus,so we do have a policy to protect our people. Actually it is not just religious since most hindus tend to be ethnically also belong to india.

No you got involved in 1971 to weaken muslims in the subcontinent.

When you say you don't care about Bangladeshies what you mean you don't care about Muslims, that is the resultant effect of hindutva propaganda. One assumes you do not consider indian muslims as indians either.

The persecution of hindus in BD is carried out almost exclusively by BAL who delhi patronises. What monitor and I am saying is easily verifiable however difficult it is for you to stomach. Your eagerness to spill blood for hindus is not shared by your government, they could not give a damn.

I care for all BDs irrespective of religion. Hindus in BD do not in my experience consider themselves hindustani which stands in opposition to the linguistic nature of our identity. It is the same reason why muslims did not care that greatly for urdu.

Your pan hindu identity exists only in your own mind. You should visit BD and speak to actual BD hindus rather than ascribing your world view upon them.

Religion transcends ethnic and linguistic boundaries. Isn't there a concept of "Ummat" in your religion? Same thing here. I can't do anything if your ethnic identity comes before your religious identity. Maybe part of the reason why you guys separated from Pakistan breaking up a Muslim nation. Not that we care 8-)

As i said you have no concept of what a Bangladeshi is. Please visit the country and understand the people.

Are you Muslim or Bengali first? Give an honest answer please. And do you feel closer to a Bihari Muslim or a Bengali Hindu in BD? I know for a fact that you guys look down on Muslim Biharis simply because of language.

I am Muslim first and Bangladeshi second. I believe in the ummah and off course feel affinity towards other muslims.

I would not distinguish between a bihari muslim in Bangladesh with a Bangladeshi hindu. Both are Bangladeshi period without distinction. Your assumption on what I think is wrong and you can look up what i have said regarding the bihari issue in the forum.

A indian muslim and a bangladeshi hindu i would distinguish between them. One is a co-religionist and the other is a countryman. My points of view and affinity will fluctuate between them by topic. These are not binary choices.

Presumably you are seeking to clarify if religion and religious affinity can trump nationalism. It can, my position is that for the BD hindu there is nothing in the make-up Bangladesh and the general outlook of its people which will lead to an existential crisis that will force them to choose their religion or co-religionists over their country and nationality.
