No free Chinese lunch

I am not in that field where I read about economics I might be taking a course on it so I force myself to read but that will be in 1 yrs time till then I am allowed to ignorant of the field I am not familiar with...One cant be an expert at everything....needs to give other a chance to explain :agree:

Return on Investments (ROI) is an old field.

Anyone investing in anything evaluates ROI and risk before investing.

Same for China.

No free Chinese lunch
IRFAN HUSAIN — UPDATED about 2 hours ago

THAT loud slurping you have been hearing this last fortnight is the sound of politicians, pundits and punters drooling over the prospect of $46 billion in Chinese investment coming to Pakistan.

For a dose of reality, just look what has happened in (and to) Sri Lanka with its spate of Chinese deals. The new government of President Sirisena is struggling to cope with the Chinese-financed and built projects it has inherited from the Rajapaksa administration.

This entire scenario about Sri Lanka doesn't apply to Pakistan. There is no free lunch here either. The Chinese are looking at a HUGE market where they can make tons of profits, literally hundreds of billions in the long run. This is no different how the West looked at India and China 20 years ago. Now both of those markets are saturated to the majority of the degree.

Next, Sri Lanka has utilized a lot of the Chinese assistance. Their tech sector and other businesses have gone way up, because of the investments the Chinese made and the Sri Lankans used those investments to grow their economy. Yes they are having issues but its miss management, vs. the Chinese's fault.

For Pakistan, this investment isn't a favor of the Chinese felt bad for their buddy. Pakistan will connect China through the world. Through Pakistan, 3 BILLION people (half the globe pretty much), will connect. The US has a population of 300 million people and the Britts, Australians, the French like 15+ times LESS populated then the US. If these countries enjoy such large economies, Pakistan will be one of the top 10-15 as well, due to the size of the population, educational system, people's IQ and the ability to offer services and products which may be developed in Pakistan much cheaper than majority of the globe. Same thing the Indian and the Chinese went through.

So yes, there is no free lunch, and that means there is a potential to earn hundreds of billions of dollars by the Chinese over a decade or two!!!

relocate doesnt actually tell you much about who is going to be the labour, how much pay and what the conditions are going to be....Again assuming is different from reality hence transparency is necessary!
If you think that laborers in those factories are gonna get 5 Star stay, way above average market pay and perks that would be matchless then this would be utterly wrong. Yes the number of job opportunities are going to increase and more people be having sustained income stream.

Did I ask anything from your gaga land? Will they be treated like humans? Will they be allowed prayer breaks as per their right? Will they be forced to eat during fasting? and odd things like that! I everything should be transparent from the start and not suddenly coming up later!

It is not wrong for a citizen of a democratic country to question what our PM signed us up for!

So treating the workers as human beings with rights is somehow reduced to Arab ventures?

. .
Depends upon how do you define workers to be "treated like humans".
right to pray is a normal human treatment you will find in Pakistan at any level be it labour or be it in air conditioned office!

Rights of not being asked to skin dogs when you know your workers cant touch em is another right to be treated humanely....

Rights to safety if in some weird jobs with chemicals be it fumes be it in any form ...

human rights that are normal...

I found that Program helpful to get some basic Info about Chinese Investment :pakistan::china:
.
I think Najam Sethi is famous celebrity among Indians.....
.
Right now, iam unable to find anything suspicious about that Investment, so dear country fellows, there is noting to be worried about

Exactly how is this benefiting China?

Like all investments, we get a return on our money.

If we are investing so much in Pakistan, it's because we believe the projects will be profitable.

If the projects fail then we lose money, but I don't think they will fail.

What?

Are you being serious?

It's an investment, not aid, nor a loan. It's their money, not ours, through it we build our own economy, infrastructure and jobs. Some reading on basic economic theory related to money flow and investment might be handy here.

It's a win win for both. Granted that we're successful. The Chinese are not fools, they have clearly weighed the risk and benefit, and decided to commit, a very large amount.

No I just said human rights (it is no secret about how labour rights are abused all over Asia including Pakistan) the guy pushed it more like a fool so I gave him the answers he was prob not looking for :ashamed:

Fair enough....So how is the return paid back?? Just curious.....monthly or yearly?

will those projects build by Chinese work force or Pak? chines engineer or pak ?

Seeing Chinese behavior in The region I am wary about Chinese sincerity and intention in Pakistan. You shouldn't think for a second they like a Muslim country like some are thinking here. They are just out for their own interest in a business context.
