No foreign hand involved in terrorism: Malik

KARACHI: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Sunday said that there was no external hand involved in creating terrorism in Pakistan and it is local people who were involved in these crimes.

Speaking at the Karachi airport, Malik said that Taliban, al Qaeda and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi were all coordinating with each other.

Malik said that Lashkar-e-Jhangvi was involved in creating terrorism in Karachi and that no terror activities could take place in the country unless terrorists had local support.

He said that conditions in Karachi were better and that the army did not need to be called in. Malik also said that if there were any complaints regarding corruption, then the FIA would investigate.

Finally, we can get rid of all the allegations that is constantly thrown at us. It cannot get bigger than an interior minister's statement.

It is our own locals who bomb us, arrange supply and coordinate the attacks.

Even if there is a foreign hand, our own are complicit in it thus we have to sort the internal aspect before anything else can be dealt with.

I and many others have been stating this for a while that it is our own who are terrorising the state.

I have a strong feeling many Pakistanis will still not believe him and some will even label him a Raw agent / Indian stooge .

T Faz, Just to add to your point, I believe that for a country or group to be able to foment trouble in another it requires, in addition to the ability to provide financial and military assistance, significant humint as well as a degree of ideological/cultural overlap and shared values with the insurgents in question (Pakistan in Kashmir, Russians in Abkhazia, Iran in Iraq and Lebanon, Turks in Northern Cyprus, Albania in Kosovo etc). India has neither vis a vis TTP or other secessionist movements in Pakistan and I would have thought it would be hard for the TTP or anyone else to justify accepting help from India or its proxies to its grassroots on ideological grounds, given their rabid hatred for anyone who does not conform to their rigid interpretation of Islam (unless you assume that they are nothing but a criminal syndicate, which by all accounts they are not)

I feel that foreign assistance, IF ANY, to terrorists in Pakistan is likely to be limited to passive acquiescence or occasional financial support, which in itself would be pretty ineffective in the absence of significant local involvement and constantly harping on about the 'foreign hand' only distracts the Pakistani nation from addressing the toxic domestic dynamics that is driving terror in the country. Anyways, I am glad at least someone in the Pak establishment appears to have initiated the process of reversing the brainwashing Pakistani public has been subjected to in recent years...

Its also interesting that he has left out JeM and, more notably, LeT from the statement. Seems like he is still making the distinction between 'terrorist'/'freedom fighter'..

So far indians are saying we won't accept it and so far we pakistanis are all accepting it and now they are asking us to call Kashmiris terrorists.

Guys this is too much

The ones doing the bombings and terrorist acts are mostly from tribal areas. They have local supproters also no doubt but they are also receiving material and financial support from foreign sources.

From an Indian perpective , india views this as an opertunity to keep Pakistan pinned down and therefore they supprot these elements via their presence in afghanistan.

India has done this in the past against Pakistan and india is now doing the same as before.

Good to hear that the confusion of lots of people here are properly explained by the interior minister himself.
