No force can stop the desire for freedom, says Dalai Lama

I agree with Dalai Lama on that.........I think though, he needs to teach that to the host nation where he is....INDIA about Occupied Kashmir

ever wondered why he hasn`t given that???

Coz even he knows INDIA aint parting with kashmir.

hey i am just a deluded indian. do take notice of other indians also :azn:

No china bashing coz i feel dalai lama has not done a proactive riole in tibets cause. Maybe i am ignoring he`s a leader in exile. But the fact that they deny chinese statehood and still stay chine are subjecting them to torture and pain and they remain as veggies worries me.

Dalai Lama is a terrorist,
since acc to indian dictionary, freedom fighter = terrorists.
Wonder why they are hosting a terrorist?

Is it a response to Kashmiri freedom struggel?
What a cheap response by Indians.
Instead of stopping the blood shed ot Kashmiris they pumped up dalai lama to shift the focus.
India gave shelter for Tibetan refugees at a time when Pakistan was US's ally. Guess how much Pak loved China then. Pakistan's closeness to China was a consequence of India's rift with China. And Indians took to heart the Tibetan cause even before Pakistan tried to see what was there on the other side of the border.
Now the arc goes the other way - China's suspicion feeds Pakistan, which pisses off Indians. Which action is more 'honest' do you think? And which one is 'cheap'?

Kindly go to China history thread and read about the foundations of Sino-Pak releations. The Gandhara civilisation has been trading with China for 4000+ years. The Sino-Islamic releations go as far as the Tang dynasty. Unlike Indian, Muslims were never confronted violently in China.

This is typical indian assumption that Pak-USA, Sino-Pak, Turk-Pak and Pak-XXX alliances are all geared towarding countering India.

The sino-pak releation did not start due to India, it was in existence from first day of independence. And yes China was also in the US camp along with PAK with support against Soviet union and arming the mujahideen. Only loser india teamed with ailing soviet union.

Pakistans did not give sh1t about tibetian issue because we favoured fostering better releations with China by keeping out of their internal matters.

Indian-Soviet alliance = failed...soviet union butchered in pieces
India-Sino releations = fail
USA-India releations = at the moment very good due to trade potential.

aah running here and there and cracking some age old comment wont help the tibetan cause.
Either the accept the chinese statehood or take up arms. the we wont do a thing and wont accept china is no good.

I am sick of seeing some tibetans gather one fine day in front of the chinese embassy and "protesting" while their indian string pullers thing they`ll get a pat on their back for arranging a "protest movement"

Thank you sir. That's what I've been saying for a while. To those holier than thou because I <3 the Dalai Lama people out there, either get your government to openly say Tibet is not part of China or save your tired cliches.

Running out of time, as in he will die soon..but if he is going to die soon, what does he care, if Tibet goes free or not?

You missed the point. Tibet is sinosizing and developing economically, there is less and less chance that people would want the old feudal system back as things develop. The Dalai lama can live till 100 for all I care. Good luck to him.

You know what I really don't have anything against the guy, he's not apolitical as he claims but he isn't the bogey man that the CCP makes him out to be either. I wish him all the luck in the world but hopefully he's going to be irrelevance as a political figurehead soon.

A question to the Chinese members

Can't Tibet be given some level of autonomy like Hong Kong ?

While you are at it why not organize some Tibetan cultural programs or study of it?Afterall isn't their fear about China wiping out their culture.

Just give them an assurance their culture is safe.

China would love to grant cultural and a political autonomy (a small price) for an assurance that Tibetans won't clamour for independence. In fact Tibet was ruled by the DL and semi-autonomous right into the 50's even after the PLA and the CCP took over. But the DL reneged on the agreement and that's why he and his lamas got kicked out. Even after relations soured, the DL and his government were offered conditions for coming back, it was they who refused at the time. DL thought China was going to implode and he'd get a better deal after this happened from the Americans or Indians and he'll have his chance to take over Tibet again as the sole ruler.

This was the choice he made and this is the road they chose, and so with the way it is going right now, I see no reason for the iron fist to lift and for the government to systemically change the demographics and suppress culture.

To quote the bible "We Reap What We Sow (6:7-9 Galatians).

I think there is just a general misconception about what China's priorities are. It isn't to crush all freedom and independent thought, contrary to what the ill-informed think. The media control, "repressive practices", the over-reactions over Tibet are all means to a end and not ends on to themselves and that end is stability and societal harmony.

You have to understand the trauma that China went through during the first half of the 20th century. There was no law and there was no government. War between war lords took more lives than one can imagine. There are horrifying stories of how war lord armies went into a village and strung all the woman of the village up with barbwire through their breasts. Many Chinese will do anything to prevent that from happening again and many Chinese including myself are willing to take the trade off of less personal freedom for stability and the absence of chaos.
