So India is not going for F-35, than why IN issued RFI for it??? Also as per the news Lockheed Martin already made a presentation on the aircraft.
Hi Kinetic, it isn't surprising that IN send the RFI to LM too, because it will have a naval version of the F35 and if it is on offer for India, they have to get infos about the advantages and disadvantages of it. They even asked for infos about Sea Typhoon and let Saab join although they are not even close to have a naval version.
However, this report should rule out the chance of LM getting an RFP from IN and moreover it hints that IN will go for one of the types that are on offer in MMRCA, most likely the winner of course!
If we keep in mind that Rafale and F18SH should be leaders in that competion and also have already operational carrier versions (capable for CATOBAR carriers), it will be more obvious that commonality will be a big point here.
