There has been no evidence that the Pak leadership knew of the presence of Osama bin Laden inside their country, a top Pentagon commander has said citing post-raid analysis of the secret operation that killed the most wanted terrorist of the world.

Navy Adm William McRaven, Commander of US Special Operations Command, said at the Hero’s Summit in Washington that post-raid analysis of the raid indicates that the Pak leadership was not aware of his presence.

“How could they not know he was there?” he asked.

“We have no intelligence that indicates the Pakistanis knew he was there,” he added.

McRaven also said the US leadership decided not to inform Pakistan about the raid in advance as they believed informing Pak about the raid in advance would have put the mission at risk.

Sharing details of the daring raid, McRaven said the best commandoes were picked up for this raid to kill Laden.

“We hand-picked the guys. They were the best of the best, all across the board. They had extensive combat experience, and consequently I was very confident,” he said.

McRaven said, even while Osama bin Laden is dead, non-state actors continue to pose a threat.

“We’ve done a terrific job of taking care of the core of al-Qaeda. But there’s no such thing as a local problem anymore. Everything in the world is connected,” he said.

He said to minimise the rise of violent extremism, “You have to create the conditions on the ground where people have good jobs, where there is the rule of law, stability and good governance.”

“The raids get all the media attention. But the reality of the matter is the bulk of what we do is building partner capacity and working with host nations. I think that’s the future of special operations,” McRaven added.

These are no permanent statements...

These kind statement change with time and depend on that time relation between Pak-US.
Current statement show Pak and US are in good relation....

Somehow USA is looking to appease Pakistan these days. Looks like they really want to take their military equipment out and soon so.

Personally I would want that equipment to be absorbed by the region instead of USA taking that out. Bhate Chor ki langoti aor woh bhi high-tech..

Pakistan was unaware of bin Laden's location, US assessment concludes
By APP Published: November 16, 2012
WASHINGTON: The commander of US Special Operations Command has said that a post-raid assessment concluded there is no evidence that the Pakistani government knew the whereabouts of al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, who was eliminated in an operation in May 2011.
Navy Adm William H McRaven told attendees at a Summit that Pakistan wasn’t informed of the raid that led to the death of bin Laden.
McRaven said he doesn’t believe the Pakistani government knew bin Laden’s whereabouts, the Pentagon reported Thursday.
“We have no intelligence that indicates the Pakistanis knew he was there,” he added.
The US Special Forces carried out the secret night raid on Osama bin Laden’s hideout in Abbottabad on May 1, last year.
McRaven said there was never a moment he doubted the raid would succeed. Though bin Laden is dead, non-state actors still present a threat, the admiral noted.
“We’ve done a terrific job of taking care of the core of al Qaeda,” McRaven said. But, he added, “There’s no such thing as a local problem anymore. Everything in the world is connected.”
This interconnectedness means the future of special operations lies in partnerships with other nations, he added.
“We understand to minimize the rise of violent extremism, you have to create the conditions on the ground where people have good jobs, where there is the rule of law, where there is stability [and] where there is good governance,” he said.
“We think, from a military standpoint, we can certainly help with the security that will be required to help begin to build some of that stability”.
“The raids get all the media attention”, he continued, “but the reality of the matter is the bulk of what we do is building partner capacity and working with host nations. I think that’s the future of special operations,” he said, according to a Pentagon account of his remarks.

I believe they already stated this before... I don't think this needs to be said repeatedly. The conspiracy theorists will continue believing what they want to believe.

It was like I said new statements from US will keep coming & they will always be changed. US will keep rubbing their A**ES on this for a very long time. Let’s see what they will say next which will only be mixed with lots of spices & masala. Just the way the Indians like it.

They know Pakistan is key to any future balancing act in South and Central Asia as well as dealing with Middle east and China. Pakistan has the trump card, only if our leaders knew about it and how to use it. I mean, in Karachi, USA has this new huge embassy, go see for yourself. While others a closing their consulates, embassies in Karachi, USA is opening up. Try applying for visas to USA. At one time it used to take weeks and months to get a visa, if you get it. Now they are issuing visas in days.

They know how deep anti-Americanism is, and they want to suck the elite out....you know, the educated youth.

Seriously, if this is indeed true that world's most wanted terrorist was hiding inside Pakistan just 60-70 kms from it's capital & Pakistan had no clue about it, than this raises serious questions on the intelligence capabilities of Pakistan.

It should raise serious question about CIA which have been on a hunt for OBL for a decade which still only happened cuz of a help of a Pakistani Doctor! or else it might wouldnt have been this easy or happened just yet! Furtheremore, when 911 happened, those terrorists were getting training from US institution for months so was CIA smoking pot or what? Should it raise serious questions about the intelligence capability of USA? No!
