I have a very basic question.
Why Solar system is in 2D. When we see our solar system in documantries it is a disc like shape. What is the reason behind its 2D shape. Why its not in 3D like atom????

As far as I understand we usually prefer drawing top views, be it strategy for a war, drawing a plan of a building or solar system, this way the solar system becomes easy to understand. Albeit I think 3d solar system's structure should be taught in high schools.

Yeah top view is easy to understand but it cant clearly describe the whole structure.
Front and side views are also taught in engineering drawing.

The universe is expanding as has been proved. So it might sound more practical than any logical conclusions anybody can put forth. Although things are still in nascent stage we shouldn't be surprised if some new theory comes up to prove that it was all wrong .

Let me give you some idea..
A cousin of mine joined Manipal university and he had opted for aeronautical engineering. Within 2 months he decided to quit it, for he thought whatever was being taught to him was very theoretical. So he joined for the same course in US.
Professional colleges mostly teach us very theoretical stuff (IITs, NITs and IIMs 're exceptions).

Same here in Pakistan.
Course here in most universities is theoretical. Means Ratta System.
There are some steps taken by musharaf government in this regard. But they are limited to school level.

Sun, and thus solar system are moving in an orbit around galactic center. So the helical motion is true if your frame of reference is galaxy (center). The flat version is true if your frame of reference is sun. When the solar system is taught in schools, there is generally no need to go in complex details, sun as a frame of reference suffice.
So both answers are correct.

I posted the reason earlier. The reason is rotation. Most orbiting stuff would be somehow aligned to the rotation axis of core. Probably this video would help:

Most stuff in the universe would be orbiting in plane, like spiral galaxies. Rings of planets. The plane is aligned to rotational axis of core. Sun in case of solar system, galactic centers, planets in case of rings.
