No ammo, air defence obsolete: Army Chief to PM

I don't understand how Gen Singh called TATRA trucks substandard, when history shows that Israel was so impressed by TATRA trucks that they captured from Arabs in 1973, that they used Romania as a conduit to import more of these trucks to Israel as direct purchase was not possible. Now TATRA is in the service of many armies apart from India which includes KSA, Israel,Australia, Russia etc.

this letter is dated about 12th of march that is before the budget session it broadly shows the concern of our army chief over delayed procurement processes and lack of preparedness which every army chief in the past has did. the real problem is the person who leaked the report which is in the PMO i certainly feel it was done to further malign the reputation of our chief ,these people should be brought to public domain and put it in front of judiciary for his/her attempt to destabalize the defence forces and making a national secret document public

Do you have any idea about the system in which MoD functions or, the interaction between PM and Army chief or, chief of any of the three wings..? I guess not..

FYI every month the chiefs provide the information about the preparedness of Armed forces to PM. The whole Govt. is acting b*tt hurt because the letter has come out in open.

BTW Adm. Vijai Shelhawat had written a letter to PM about the dwindling numbers of Submarines in IN One day before his retirement.. Guess He was a fused bulb which got On by fluke...

Its not just quality.. . Even though Vectra supplies the kits to BEML which then makes the final product and supplies to Armed forces there is no facility for servicing them in country ! Czech specialists have to be called if an issue arises. The trucks are still left hand driven ! And above all they cost much much more than the competitors.. But since a DPSU is involved no one had tried to seek alternative.
This chief tried to open up the competition by inviting Haldia based URAL and this was his biggest mistake.. Any body who tries to get private sector involved gets f**cked. This whole drama is being orchestrated by the "lobby" and most probably General will play the price to make the game fair...

Files are stuck at various levels. OFB+DPSU nexus is too strong to let the files pass anytime soon.

Well cancer cannot be treated by paracetamol and COAS's letter shows the deep rooted cancer in IA and MoD that needs major surgery. It is indeed embarrassing for us, but better be embarrassed in peacetime than in war time.

I think IA started buying TATRA trucks at a time when our local manufacturers didn't have enough expertise to build sophisticated trucks. Now as it is seen that our local manufacturers makes world class trucks, the TATRA deal has to be cancelled or force them to open a full manufacturing plant in India with right hand drive configuration.

Absolutely Correct.. But DPSUs have more say in these matters than the Armed forces.

BTW DRDO does not prefer TATRA..

I think he should have resigned stating the unpreparedness of the country and the political parties unwilling to do anything.Shouldn't he also state what he did during his period to counter it or any proposal he pushed forwad....... don't tell me that's a top secret

How convenient to form opinions...

When a single gun is not purchased in last 30 years, The Gen. should have waved his magic band and the obsolete systems due to systematic neglect would have been modernized... He is chief for last 2 years...
