India has one of least per capita illegal firearm in the world. States like UP , Bihar have some issue but all India is not.

What gun culture are you talking about? The Kalashnikov culture in Pakistan? That wont happen because of this.

There is no way to provide policemen in every square meter of the country, or even every street corner. It is mathematically impossible.

It will be a lot more value for money if citizens can defend themselves, instead of expecting policemen to be present omnipotently.

The police numbers are very less compared to the required level.

First police needs to be provided with High tech equipment, surveillance.

Secondly Police numbers and their picketing areas need to increase.

Thirdly Biased laws in favor of women must be there to punish the criminals.

All that can be done, but can only go so far. You can double the police numbers at great expense, but there still won't be enough policemen for every corner. It is impossible to surveil every square inch.

Tough laws can also only go so far. Rapists do the crime because they think they can get away with it, not because of the difference in deterence value of death penalty v/s 20 years imprisonment.

What high tech equipment do you suggest, to improve womens safety?

All said and done, if every woman in the country carried a gun, that would be a much bigger deterrent than doubling or tripling the number of cops, and at far less expense.

A gun is a great leveller - the strong and the weak are equal, if both have a gun. Equipping most people with a gun is a cheap thing to do (despite the ludicrous price quoted for this particular gun). Much cheaper than surveilling every inch of the country. Much more efficient.

No need to surveil every inch of the territory. Ladies need to be informed which routes are safe and picketing is available, particularly when they work at night. Police numbers are very low and they need to be increased, state budgets will take care of this.

Laws need to be tightened, and we need biased laws in favor of women.

What happens when thugs also carry weapons ??

then the situation becomes normal but the society now is inflicted with gun culture. How many ladies can buy gun which costs more than 1 lakh and needs license to use.

Surveillance is easier since the infrastructure like satellite communications, mobiles, CCTvs all exist and is developing fast.
