The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has returned to Pakistan four interim Super Mushshak piston engine trainers ahead of the delivery of five new aircraft.
The NAF said that the four aircraft on loan to the NAF had been used by 401 Flying Training School in Kaduna for ab-initio flying training. The disassembled aircraft were loaded aboard an Il-76 cargo aircraft and flown out of NAF Base Kaduna on 23 October. The returned aircraft were temporarily made available by the Pakistan Government, at no extra cost to the NAF, for training pilots in December 2016, prior to the delivery of ten new Super Mushshaks.
“With the now returned four Super Mushshak trainer aircraft, the NAF was able to train four Instructor Pilots and graduate 16 ab-initio student pilots, including two female pilots, at the 401 Flying Training School Kaduna,” the Nigerian Air Force said.
“Having taken delivery of the first batch of five new trainer aircraft, there was no longer any need for the NAF to retain the four loaned Super Mushshak aircraft and hence, the return of the aircraft, in line with the agreement between the two parties. The NAF is expecting to receive the remaining five brand new Super Mushshak aircraft it had since ordered before the end of December 2017.”
The NAF on 8 August inducted five new Super Mushshak trainer aircraft into service, and graduated 16 new pilots from 401 Flying Training School at Kaduna. The inducted aircraft are all brand new and are fitted with digital glass cockpits, the NAF said.
The Nigerian Air Force received its first four interim Super Mushshaks on 5 December 2016. Nigeria signed a contract for ten Super Mushshaks on 21 October 2016 with Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) Kamra.
