Nigeria waiting for US to approve Super Tucano sale
Jeremy Binnie, London - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly
07 June 2016

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is hoping to replace its Dassault-Dornier Alpha Jets with Embraer EMB 314/A-29 Super Tucano turboprops, NAF spokesman Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa said on 6 June.

The NAF released this photo of the Alpha Jet NAF475 in February when it announced that the two aircraft that arrived from the US in 2015 had been remilitarised. It announced in March that the same aircraft had veered into a ditch when landing at Yola. (Nigerian Air Force)

The revelation came in a statement announcing that the apron at Yola Air Base was being expanded in preparation for the arrival of new platforms that have been ordered for the NAF, which include Mil Mi-35M helicopters, CAC/PAC JF-17 Thunder fighters, and PAC Super Mushshak trainers.

"There are also strong indications that the US government may give the nod sooner than expected with regards to the sale of Super Tucano to the NAF to replace the ageing Alpha Jets," the statement said.

Africa here we come.......... Good development and indeed a long awaited news just came out... Thanks to @Windjammer as well. Good going team Pak-China.

Good news. I cant wait to see these birds operational with some other force. No doubt the PAF is satisfied with the performance of JF-17 and that is why we are going ahead with the project, still export will mean a lot. Also the feedback of a foreign user will help in the future, not to mentioned the effect it will have on the image of the plane and on future possible sales. The breakthrough was always going to be difficult. Once the plane is in action with foreign air forces and there are good things to be heard about it from them as well, things will move on smoothly.!!

Great development. Man has been waiting for the export for some time. Amazing. It will really help Nigeria in combatting those terrorists as well as further improve relations between the two countries.. We have not done much in increasing relations with African countries and we should mend it.

If the Nigerians are lucky the indians will offer them their Raphaels or Su30s in order to not go through with the sale

The Jf17 could bankrupt india
