What's new

Nice article about Xi Jinping

I see what your saying and I agree. But It is also important for Chinese to go abroad and get an experience of foreign countries to learn and to bring back their new found wisdom.

Zhou Enlai went to Europe to study, Deng labored in France for years and I think Jiang Zemin stayed in Russia for a time. Xi didnt stay overseas but his Iowa trip did have a profound impact on him when he of a lowly official.

Well you cant compare China from 1949 to the early 90s, China back then was a ultra poor, backward country, just a bigger version of North Korea(in fact North Korea had a better livin conditions/gdp per capital) . So obviously it is understandablr mkst of chinas leaders/officials opted to go study/learn from the more advanced Europe/U.S or even Russia. Even thoigh despite living and studying in yhe west, they still claimed they wete anti western. Lool

However everybody will expect that todays China would have been different, as its a growing power, with quite fair/decent universities, and a largr middle class with improving livibg standards with each passing year. So one will expect that such an 'upcoming power' will be confident ebough for jts highest leader to send its only child to study in its own universities at the very least.

Moreover, if there was nothing really wring/ackward about your great 'patriotic' leader sending his omly child to study in the 'imperialistic/evil', then why are they trying so hard to hide/cover this news from people?lol. If you know you have done nothing wromh, then why try hide it or put it in as low profile as you can? Lol. They themself must know it isnt exactly an examplary nehaviour i believe. Less the ultra nationalisic youths back home like @Hypersonicmissiles ,@PLANZubr et al start questioning their patriotism. Lol

There is absolutely nothing wrong with learning from the west. Even now, according to Henry Paulson in his book 'Dealing with China', the leadership still watches various foreign economic and political models to learn how to apply the best aspects into Chinese society.

Chinese leaders are generally inconspicuous and their private family lives are always hidden. Add to it the fact that Xis daughter could have been studying in Harvard before her father was chosen to be the next party chairman. Le Keqiang was also a strong candidate backed by Hu Jintao and Jiang Zemin. Back in the late 2000s I was in favour of Li Keqiang but Xis performance has proven me a dumbass.

As Deng put it:

"Cross the river by feeling the stones".

Learn from the west for what to do and what not to do. Then China can cross the river more safely and efficiently.

Le Keqiang won't have a second term.

True, but im not sure your brothers like @PLANZubr will be happy to hear you say that great super China doesnt mind learning from the barbarian West/U.S . :sarcastic:

No. Quite the contrary. Keep in mind that, in terms of percentage, not in absolute numbers, UK or Britain loses more brain power to the US than China.

Besides, China's retention rate is considerably high, and the trend is rising.

I myself received MA in the US. But returned. I wish to eventually end up in the Mainland.

My coworker just received a PhD from UK and returned.

Interestingly, the Chinese who emigrated to Western countries have become even more patriotic. In the past 3 years, emigration from China is 190,000 people per year. Democratic Poland, with a 40 million population had emigration of 500,000 people last year!

And it is always a two way street. Believe or not, people come to China to learn, as well.

In our democratic Taiwan province, with 23 million population (less people than Shanghai); conservative figures put it at 1.5 million people working/living/studying in China.

Nothing wrong with learning new knowledge from any place, near and far. That's pragmatism.

At the height of your colonial regime, you were sending thousands to overseas. The nature of then UK's and now China's exploration of the world, as well as the purpose, is definitely different, but, the context is the same. you got to start from somewhere.

Nobody calls the West barbarian. That's in fact the European rhetoric to legitimate their colonial policies. Remember, you went to Africa, Middle East and India to save the barbarians from themselves.

China does not have colonies, so we never have the urge to call the West barbarians. Maybe for quite a long time we viewed you as not being much civil or refined.

Not only we learned from you, also learned from Japan, South Korea and Singapore. We send thousands of students to developed Northeast Asia. So, leave some credits to Japan and others for China's successes, if you do not mind.

In fact, I would argue, although the West has always been the greatest market for China's products, China learned from its Asian neighbors a lot more than it learned from you: from public services, to economic management, we got a bloody amount of knowledge from Japan and others. This dynamics is naturally lost to you.

When it comes to politics, demonstrators in Ukraine or the Middle East call for western democracy but nobody marches to demand a Chinese political system.

Eric X. Li argued in his TED Talks episode that the Chinese political system cannot be exported to any country. It is never meant to be and the CPC has no intention of doing so, so why bother?

It is also for this reason why I don't yet believe that Brienne has actually killed Stannis. XD

Director David Nutter has confirmed that Stannis is dead but it's up to you whether to buy his statement. :partay:

And in hindsight, you didn't even need to betray Robb Stark if he wasn't such a naïve fool who instead of following his father's orders, decided to declare himself King in the North with the anticipation of a ''glorious'' conquest towards the South. And to come to think of it, he ignored a lot of your good advice as well! So yeah, the Red Wedding was kind of deserved.

This is somewhat analogous to what happened to Jon, for his decision to behead Janos Slynt and to let the Free Folk plus Tormund south of the Wall sealed his fate in the Night's Watch. That being said I'm sure he would be a better Lord Commander than Ser Alliser.

You know... Robb tried to cheat himself out of his promise to marry Roslin Frey, because he already had his foreign honeypot, and also because he anticipated that she would be ugly like the other Frey sisters, only to find out that Roslin was ten times prettier than his own Braavosi darling.

First of all Talisa is from Volantis, not Braavos, and secondly I disagree with you opinion that Roslin looks way prettier than Robb's consort. Nevertheless it was a fatal diplomatic move that led to the virtual destruction of the Starks, the Tullys and their respective bannermen. Painful to remember as a GoT fan because I like the fish and the wolf but good for me as Roose because the road to more power was paved. :D

As for the Starks, if only Ned had fled King's Landing in some way with Sansa and Arya (I imagine that some Stark sympathisers from the city aided his escape) and had returned to Winterfell safely...

Reason why I choose Stannis over Roose Bolton after the Red Wedding, was because you have (somewhat of) a non-aggression pact with the Lannisters at this moment.

It has ceased to exist recently since Cersei vows to have me and Ramsay flayed and learnt of Littlefinger's plan to take the North with Sweetrobin's knights of the Vale. The real Roose from the books/series isn't aware of this but he is very well aware of the fact that the Lannisters no longer got his back since Tywin's death, hence Ramsay's marriage with Sansa to legitimise and consolidate his rule over the North.

Jaime is a perverted dcikhead but he isnt a bad guy, just kinda impressionable. When he hangs around his sister he becomes a bastard but when he hangs around Briene of Tarth he follows her lead and becomes a good guy.

Jaime is also one of the few who likes Tyrion and has helped him escape from King's Landing, so I don't hate him that much although he was responsible to cripple Bran.

With that having said, Ramsey Bolton is one crazy sadistic son of a b#%@. I wish the worst upon him!

Things would've been different if I had killed him while he was but a newly born infant and if Domeric had still been alive and if I had had more offspring... but so be it. I had many good reasons to legitimise Ramsay.

Btw, when Xi is Lord Tywin, who will be Ser Kevan? I don't believe Li Keqiang would match his traits so imho Wang Qishan fits better to his role.
