NHA started working on 53 Mega Projects with an investment of 5.2 Trillion Rupees.

Highlighted Projects Sukkur Hyderabad Motorway and 527 Kilometers.
Tarnol, Fatehjang, Talagang, Mianwali, Muzaffargarh Highway

The National Highway Authority (NHA) has started working on road infrastructure projects reflected in the federal government’s proposed Public Sector Development Programme Plus plan but with ambitious deadlines.

A total of 53 mega projects involving an investment of Rs 5.2 trillion have been identified. The Plan has been divided into two categories and is named as PSDP Plus.

The first category has 29 projects in 11 sectors with zero government involvement. The total investment in this category would be Rs 2.9 trillion, while the second category has 24 projects in 7 sectors with limited government involvement. Total investment in this category would be Rs2.3 trillion.

The road infrastructure and related projects appear to be one of the major contributors of PSDP Plus where investment is envisaged to be mainly from the private sector. Sukkar-Hyderabad Motorway and construction of 527 km long Tarnol, Fatehjang, Talagang, Mianwali, Muzaffar Garh Highway are the new projects under the first category whereas grant of Operating Concession of N-5, a major artery commonly known as GT Road, an existing maintenance related project.

Tarnol to Muzafargah/Multan will be a huge development. Multan has expanded on the west side from cannt area to chaneb on the opposite site of Muzfargarh, essentially making it a twin city. Government should identify them as twin city and should create a SEZ in the area. Multan/muzafargarh is half way of pakistan in length. Can bring in a great progress to the region.

Exactly, the huge toll taxes added with extra fuel consumption on motorway makes travelling so expensive. The government should reduce toll taxes.

Yes Pakistan needs new better Roads.
But a better Rail System is the Need of now & Future.
1 The geography of Pakistan.
2 Population.
3 Dependency on fossil fuel.
4 Affordable Mass Human & Good Transport system at faster rate & more safely.

Lets Say Pakistan has 3 Main Tracks which travel edge to edge and interconnected by smaller inner tracks, Give Pakistan few benefits specially in case of war as They will have back up.
Specific routes can run just for goods & and more populace routes can be set for other needs.
Pakistan can ask Private companies to invest in as well as that will generate revenue while less dependency on state.

Vehicles consume less fuel on motorways.

I disagree with that. First usually motorways are longer routes, secondly we tend to go fast 120 to 140, that means higher consumption for 1300cc. I always save fuel when i use gt road. Can be a combination of reasons. But motorway though faster is expensive.

you may save fuel but then spend twice as much repairing you breaks and shocks after traveling GT road.

i think if these roads are build on loan money this will result in same blunder as pmln did

Wrong reporting as usual 53 projects are designated under PSDP-Plus which entails private sector investment with government backing. Not all of these 53 projects pertain to highways and motorways.

IMO, network of roads highways alone will only help us with jobs during built-up period and will only contribute with toll fees/taxes.
The real benefit will be when government will integrate industrial/economic/agricultural zones at suitable places along the network and that should be done simultaneously. Our institutes for such planning/planers seems very weak in reference to their actual role.
Last time, when Lahore-Islamabad motorway was under construction, there were lots of columns/talk shows/interviews with intentions of advocating it a must for Pakistan's economy and Pakistan will bust the skies to reach that level - Alas ... none happened. Reality is opposite, when once I booked the coach for travelling from Islamabad to Lahore, the driver/owner adapted the GT road and avoided motorway - more cost/trip and grater wear and tear of tyres/vehicle.
