Who cares of what a single guy thinks?

It takes an hour to make any country most dangerous nation in the world.

Lets put the U.S. or India in the basket. You got a better article published within 3 hours.

It gives no effect.

Cheers.

All my friends are really, really pissed at this. Some of them e-mailed Newsweek too. The only reason Americans think Pakistan is a 'dangerous' country is because they think it's possible that the Taliban could overthrow the government. That idea is simply laughable to anyone who knows how it is. So many influential civlian politicians could not get Musharraf to go away, how will a bunch of ragtag beard scratchers take control of the country's nukes even if they do succeed in assasinating the President/Prime Minister?

This is just yellow journalism.

People, this was just another attempt to justify american presence around Pakistan and to further support its attacks inside Pak. Just a piece of rotten propaganda, and that too by a magazine like newsweek, who lacks credibility even inside USA. Someone should ask these so called neutral reporters that who is going to mention about the toil and hardships Pakistan Army is facing while it fights those terrorists in our western belt. They always forget to mention the casualties we have suffered there and the gulf that have emerged between our beloved Army and our Nation just because of this futile fight. idiots...!!!

The day these idiots realize this, they would become Pakistanis :P

So fat chance that they would ever think or even write from a Pakistani perspective. The sissy Canadians cry and complain to the President of Pakistan because they have lost 50 or so troops in Afghanistan not realizing what Pakistan is faced with..

Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf told CBC Tuesday that the Canadian military casualties from fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan have been insubstantial compared with those suffered by Pakistan.

Musharraf brushed off the suggestion that his government was endangering Canadians and other troops in Afghanistan by not doing enough to root out the Taliban and al-Qaeda and their sympathizers.

"We have suffered 500 casualties," he said. "Canadians may have suffered four or five."

Musharraf said any nation, such as Canada, that enters a war-torn area must be prepared to suffer casualties or get out of the operation.

Thnx for the figures...
Even if they write in our favor they will not become Pakistanis because we Pakistanis have gone so dumb and our brains have been polluted to an extent that inspite of knowing about the facts we still don't support out military....our nation still is sticking onto the stance that our own army is killing "own" people.... may they be granted some insight....

We usually hear such complains very often because we did not do it enough on our part to highlight the efforts that we committed since we joined WOT and the amount of troops that we lost. Also another reason we hear such baseless complains is that we never came back hard enough to these so called freedom protectors with their just 400 too 500 soldiers. Ironic it is that we hear them complaining and there is no one to complain from our side. We are just too damn busy to count the $ that are coming in. How pathetic more can it be then this?:disagree:

look guys - antiobl has made some very logical points - dont disregard them. in summary if one wants to prosper in this world, one needs to be friendly with most of the rest of the world.

^ whether we like it or not - one has to keep big brother happy - all countries doing the opposite are: N.Korea, Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Somalia, Burma i can go on.....

Since when did the US become the rest of the world?

Anyway, as mentioned, one person doesn't matter. The Democrats and the Republicans have differences of opinion, even on Pakistan.

Alright, but what has the US done for Pakistan aside from receive downpayment for F-16's and then embargo them, or place a lot of blame onto Pakistan for not being able to patrol an impossible border etc?

North Korea has nuclear weapons and an arsenal equipped with near ICBM missiles. I would hardly call them technologically or educational lacking. They have become self sufficient. China is another good example. Cuba has one of the best healthcare systems in the world. You could possibly argue about Sudan and Somalia, but were they ever going to be advanced countries even if they were best chummies with the US? I doubt it.

U R ASSUMING THAT THE US IS THE REST OF THE WORLD.

I AN NOT SO SURE ANY MORE. THE REPS AND DEMS ONLY DISAGREE ON IRAQ. ON ALL OTHER POINTS (WoT ETC) THEIR POLICIES R THE SAME.

OK U HAVE A POINT - BUT IT HAS CHANGED US 10.5 BILL IN AID/PAYMENTS, THE MILITARY IS GETTING NEW TOYS, NON-NATO STATUS,WRITTEN OFF EXPENSIVE LOANS. THESE THINGS MATTER

North Korea has nuclear weapons and an arsenal equipped with near ICBM missiles. I would hardly call them technologically or educational lacking.
They have become self sufficient. IN WHAT? WHATS A FEW ICBMS WHEN U HAVE NO RICE TO FEED YOUR POPULATION ONCE A DAY.

China is another good example. Cuba has one of the best healthcare systems in the world. AT THE COST OF WHAT?.You could possibly argue about Sudan and Somalia, but were they ever going to be advanced countries even if they were best chummies with the US? I doubt it. WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER THAN WHAT THEY ARE TODAY.

pls c my comments in caps.

I would agree with RR here. US isnt the rest of the world however i would also agree on to the fact that what US has to say, most of the world has got to follow it. Meaning if US decides to saction pakistan, europe will follow suit, we can see the example of china where arms embargo were placed on china not only by the US( doesnt matter though) but europe as well later.
Same stands for pakistan as well. But the fact of the matter is that all these years alining ourself with the US has given us nothing, infact the relationship is more of a client state and not what we call a strategic relationship unlike india. And this is a huge failure of our foreign policy. US needs our support on the WOT and for this purpose, they continue to aid us, when the interests will be over, we will be left behind as in the past.
The only question that arrises in mind is that what are we going to do about it? How far are we willing to be used by the US and for what inreturn? How long are we going to neglect other key players in the region such as russia? How long are we going to do things which does not suit our interests but just to keep the big brother happy?
Indeed the time is now for us to start taking into account the ground realites and get out of our dream world of ever having a strategic relationship with the US, because its not gonna happen not in this life time anyways, we need to get out of the dependence that we currently are on the US, the biggest importer of our textile exports, we need to search new markets, upgrade the quality of our products for a comparative challenge against products of countries such as BD, increase our defence export, our political parties should stop dragging US into every political matter of pakistan and should try to solve it themselves rather getting instructions from abroad.
This is a long term strategy and should be implemented from now on as this is the right time, otherwise we will be lost in time and our future generations will also serve the big brother like we are doing it currently.

^^icecold - what u r suggesting only happens in a ideal situation - we probably live in the roughest neighbourhood of the world and will remain so for some years to come. john mccain thinks the iraq war will be over in 2013, same stands true for us/nato presence in afghanistan- now it depends on what type of relationship we want with the US, strategic or transactional. strategic is long-term and transactional is short-term. since our political situation is not normal (un-like india) we tend to go for short-term gains. every new govt. which comes into power wants to change everything (internationally and domestically). the only possible exception has been china. even here the relationship has been mostly military based so we could qualify it as transctional(?). it is now starting to change as china starts to invest heavily in our economy.
my point was very simple - it is better to stay as a reliable and influential member in the commity of the world nations rather than being isolated and characterised as the most dangerous nation.

Pakistan is not the worlds most dangerous nation

Monday, 19 May 2008 10:04 Pakistan Daily

Addressing the House Foreign Committee hearing on 'US Foreign Policy on Pakistan' a former US ambassador to UN, Richard Holbrook, said that Pakistanis had rejected religious parties in the last general elections, who secured only 4 to 5 percent of votes, which indicated that Pakistan is not the most dangerous nation.
He said that rejection of the religious parties by masses challenges the 'journalists' that Pakistan is the world's most dangerous nation. Appreciating the spirit and energy of the parliamentarians, with whom Holbrook spent time during his stay in Islamabad, he said that there was need for USA to understand dynamics of Tribal areas and traditions which have roots since the British Raj.

Stressing on helping new democracy to flourish in Pakistan, he was very vocal in terming American Aid Plan for FATA worth $750 million over five years as a 'pathetic amount of money', while expecting this part of the world to act as theatre of Afghan operations. He also showed reservations regarding this amount to reach Pakistan successfully while NGOs act as implementation partners of State Department, for large amount of money is likely go to overheads rather than being used for FATA resulting in waste of taxpayers' dollars.

General Jones, a former supreme allied commander, reposed his confidence in Pakistan's new government and stressed that the Karzai government should be held accountable to international community for stamping out corruption which the international community expects, for doing so much for Afghanistan.

Added to this it is learnt that Richard Boucher has demanded $400 million aid from Congress for Pakistan to fight terrorism, for being key to stability of the regions. Pakistan Daily (Pakistan Daily - Breaking Pakistan News)
