Chinese, Korean and French car makers have strongly opposed the move by Pak Suzuki seeking same benefits/incentives that are marked for new players under the Auto Policy 2016-21.

Pak Suzuki, while recently celebrating the 2.0 million sales milestone has re-approached the government to get the Greenfield investment status and hinted to set up a second assembly plant with an estimated investment of $460 million.

Auto Policy 2016-2021 does not allow the incentives under Greenfield investment status to existing assemblers. The Greenfield policy was made to provide level-playing field to new comers and if Pak Suzuki or other existing assemblers receive these, this would be completely unfair.

It was decided that the auto policy, once implemented will not be changed for at least 5 years. However, the government will have to amend the Auto Policy 2016-2021 to provide benefits to existing assemblers. But if the government grants the Greenfield status to Pak Suzuki, or introduce any changes to the policy, it will be a huge credibility loss for the government policies. Furthermore it will create a negative impact on the new investment as there won't be any attraction for newcomers to invest in the auto sector.

I hope the government doesn't screw this up and then get dragged in arbitrary courts. Be fair else no further business groups will invest. If govt already stated that this policy is for new comers then there is no justification to grant same incentives for existing Suzuki who have looted the country for decades.

Suzuki needs to be shown the door here. Enough of this unfair play. Everyone needs to get level playing field. We need more choices for customers and get the usual junk off the streets.

.
Well they should be given a different perk but provided they DESIGN 2-3 Cars in Pakistan with Pakistani workforce

a) Engine
b) Transmission
c) Car

Promissing to eatablish a new “assembly plant” if greenfield granted ? Government should link their greenfield with a (atleast 75%) manufacturing plant.

Suzuki and the rest of the auto mafia [Honda-Toyota-Suzuki] are the reason previous govt. introduced this policy. The existing cartel has pushed Pakistan behind 25-30 years atleast from the rest of the world by manipulating the corrupt situation of the country. No fuel emission standards, no safety features. Even chinese cars like FAW v2 have basic safety features and Eu-3 emission standards better than this joker Suzuki. PTI should fecilitate the new automakrs to increase competition and lower prices. Since their coming PTI policies [depreciation of dollar] have only increased the price of cars beyond the reach of middle class. Would support the new automakers to take legal action if PTI foolishly supports Suzuki.
