New Zealand for deeper defence ties with India

so whats the story ? :P Is it that same Non NATO countries are 3rd *Theory* or something else?

There is NO 'something else'. That expression relates to the two camps: the American one and the Soviet one. People who belonged to neither were "the Third World". India among other countries (mainly NAM) belonged to that group......as did Scandinavia. Now would you lump Scandinavia into your usage of that expression?
It was simply a Political expression with no economic or social connotations. So no reason to use it loosely or misleadingly.

Since World War II, New Zealand’s ruling elite has relied on the US to support its own imperialist interests in the Pacific, where NZ faces increasing competition from China. Links by China's armed forces to Pacific countries were a growing concern for NZ.

The U.S.-India defense relationship has prospered in recent years hence its a natural move from NZ!

Whos gonna attack NZ?
Doesn't matter, NZ has a professional military with some quite significant recent combat history (Afghanistan and such) so there is much the two militarise can learn from each other.

Anytime the Indian military is able to interact with another professional military is a very good thing.
