We have different strategy from US & Russia.

US has the strongest navy, so their SSBNs are not being threatened from others, and their D5 missile with a range of 11000km is already an overkill for everyone.

Whereas Russia has the best geographic position, they only need the SLBM with the range of 8000km to hit anywhere around the world.

China is the one with the most geographic disadvantage, our Type 094 were deployed the SCS, and it trajectory to reach USA is via the North Pole, therefore we need the SLBM with a range of 12000km, otherwise it would be useless as a deterrence. But a 12000km SLBM is indeed huge, that's why the hump on the Type 094 is also more prominent than other SSBNs.

From the CD forum, the hump is not as prominent, but longer compared to the previous ones.

It is definitely a Type 094B, which can carry up to 16 SLBMs.

As for JL-2, they have definitely increased its range by 50% just like what they did for JL-1 by upgrading its first stage booster.

It depends the payload of your SLBM, but 8000-9000km is enough for Russia to meet its strategic needs, but it is not enough for China who is at the geographic disadvantage.
