The National Assembly has passed a resolution to create a province out of South Punjab.


The National Assembly session on Thursday resounded with anti-government slogans as PML-N lawmakers continued their protest demanding resignation of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani after his conviction by the apex court in contempt case.

“Go-Gilani-Go” echoed strongly in the Lower House of parliament when Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza reacted promptly to opposition members who threw the agenda of the day during their protest.

Amid strong reaction by PML-N, the National Assembly today passed two resolutions.

The first resolution was regarding the creation of the new province in Punjab named as Southern Punjab and second resolution reposed full confidence on the Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.

Both resolutions were tabled by Federal Law Minister Farooq H. Naek.

The session of the House has been adjourned till Friday, 10:00 am.

Just a curious question.

Why do people of South Punjab need a separate Province? I have not read much about Pakistani Punjab so I would like to know it firsthand from Pakistanis. Punjabis, especially South Punjabis, preferred.

Chaudhary Nisar saying that a notice is issued 2 days before the resolution is put forward, but this time no such thing.

And this is purely for political gain, to lower the vote bank of Pml, and to get more votes and get a government in Lower Punjab. And gets more votes from their. Had they really been interested in the betterment of the country, they would not have called it Siraiki Sooba, and would have called it more units for administrative purposes, and then make other units as well, done something to Karachi, done something for the Potohar region etc etc.

The very fact that they moved forward with the line that the Siraiki people are being oppressed shows their intentions very clearly. They could have said for better administration.

And isn't the prime minister ineligible, so one vote will be void? this could go very longer than expected, at least until the ECP takes action, and detailed judgment comes out. The PPP representatives think that elected means god, and they are the supreme authority and he SC has no rights to issue orders to an elected representative, simply because SC is un-elected.

It's a good decision by Pak Govt. No province should be so large that other provinces start feeling left out. Actually they also should make more provinces in Sindh, Pakhtoonkhwa and Balochistan. That will elimnate monopoly of any particular province.

Even a fool would know that PPP are doing this for votes, else they wouldn't have said that Siraikis are being abused and oppressed.

Make Hyderabad division a new unit, get a new potohar unit, Karachi a federal area.

New provinces, new assemblies, new police forces, new administration, new helicopters and planes for everybody, new mansions etc etc. Not more provinces, more units,

buddy in that case balochistan should be divided into little pieces....

listen its all good for creating provinces for administrative reasons but for ethnic i am against this, this provinve should not be called saraiki sooba bcz if it is then it should have parts of sindh in it and no provinces on ethnic bases...

that area will stay underdeveloped ncz making it into a province wont help no one will do any developments over there this is just a political stunt to increase vote bank for ppp and decrease it for pml n nothing more

It's undeveloped because of mismanagement. When it's a Sooba, it will get its share
