They were looking for a single engined one and maybe if the pic is true, it has to be single engined.

It seems two programs were running simultaneously...A light fighter and a medium weight fighter..

I dont think they will go for 2 parallel twin engined one..hence single engine project from mig is more practical.

OT..Yes, Mig had proposed two solutions 1.44 and 1.42..The twin engined is scrapped and Single engined is still On....

Never looked like a stealth jet to me. It doesn't have the shape of a conventional stealth jet and is more or less in Rafale's category with bigger engine and longer range. Good prototype but I am pleased that Russians had the sensibility to disband the design.

Mig 1.44 is for LWF like what Su47 is to PAKFA, since the developments are going for PAKFA, ie radar,engine,weapons,avionics,plasma stealth tech,IRST ... they can be applied to LWF very easily and thus it can become true by 2015 and operatinal by 2020. Practical guess .
