New party on horizon

Dhaka, Nov 28 (bdnews24.com) – A new political party has emerged vowing to protect the country's democracy and human rights.

Eminent jurist barrister Rafiqul Haque has been made convenor and Mahmudur Rahman Manna member secretary of the party, Nagorik Andolon [Citizen Movement].

Announcing creation of the party at a press conference at the National Press Club on Monday, Rafiqul said they would work for protecting democracy and human rights in the country.

"It's a civil society body through which we'll find out the wrongs of the political parties and the government, and recommend and assist them in protection of democracy."

The 22-member convenor committee includes noted columnist Syed Abul Maksud, journalist Nurul Kabir, renowned film actor Elias Kanchan, director of BRAC University School of Law Shahdeen Malik, Prof Dilara Chowdhury of Jahangirnagar University and Dr Jafrullah Chowdhury.

For those of you who are unaware of who Barrister Rafiqul Haque is, basically lets just say he is one of the best lawyers in the country if not the best and hes has fought for both Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina and all other big time businessmen/politicians. You can find some of the talk shows in youtube if you google his name, but it is safe to say that he is a very neutral and knowledgeable person.

It seems this is not a political party but a citizens movement meant to criticize/advice the government regardless of who is in power. Seems like an artificial "opposition party" since the opposition is not joining parliament and is not doing its responsibility properly.

Bro in my opinion true secularism is not a problem but some people try to push other agendas in the name of secularism. We gotta make sure that does not happen.

On a side not it would be great if Dr Asif Nazrul was on this group as well, he is a very balanced and educated person as well.
