Reformist Jamaat-e-Islami leaders launch new political party in Bangladesh

This is a BD offshoot of Turkish AK party. The key person to create this offshoot is Barrister Abdur Razzak who is an ex Jamaat leader and currently self exiled in London. I met him in person a number of times in the past when he used to be a Jamaat leader. As far as I know, this new party is pretty much in harmony with the narratives of the ruling Awami League with focus on the Bengali upper middle class millenials. I would not be surprised if they denounce PAKISTAN too.

This next 2024 election will be quite interesting since Jokowi cannot be elected any more. It is his final term. There will be quite many young leaders in their early 50's who will become our potential Presidential and VP candidates. Thanks to our direct local elections, we can pick leaders from experience governors and majors now.

Bangladesh should ban the use of the word, 'Islam' for a political party. These parties are responsible for bad-naming the Islam. No wonder, the image of Islam throughout the world is now at all time low.

Are theology people (read Mullahs) able to apprehend that it is now 21st century and not 6th century, and the population must orient their minds towards science and technology to develop this country and feed its growing population?

Reformist leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami have launched a new political party called Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), a year after reentering the political fold on a fresh platform.

Ousted Jamaat leader Mojibur Rahman Monju, the coordinator of the political outfit Jana Akankhyar Bangladesh formed a year ago, unveiled the new party, with a 222-member convening committee, at a media briefing in Bijoynagar on Saturday.

AFM Solaiman Chowdhury, a former secretary, who resigned from Jamaat, will serve as the convener of the AB Party. Monju, former president of Islami Chhatra Shibir, Jamaat's student affiliate, has been made the member secretary of the committee.

“We have ignored the critics and from today our party is going to be called Amar Bangladesh Party," said Monju.

Retired Major Abdul Wahab Minar outlined the aims and objectives of the new party at the briefing. The party will strive to make Bangladesh a 'welfare state' by ensuring the basic and civic rights of every human being, irrespective of religion, caste and creed, according to him.

Monju said the convening committee will be tasked with forming district units while finalising the party's draft constitution and electing its leadership in line with democratic principles.

"We have launched a programme to provide food assistance to 20,000 endangered families with our limited resources. For now, the plan is to overcome this coronavirus situation by focusing on issues related to humanitarian services and formulate policies accordingly.”

The party will launch its activities after the coronavirus crisis ends, according to Monju.

Religion and politics are toxic combination...
It's not necessarily true always unless you hold militant politics as Jamat Islam did and sanghis are doing in India . AK party of Turkey is also based on religion but they are doing fine . Also everyone has the right to form a political party , if law of a country does not prohibit it , so I see no harm!

So you can not judge anything as toxic combination just because it does not meet your criteria !

Old time theology has little relevance to 21st century survival issues of a nation with so many millions of extra mouths to feed. An economic issue needs an economic solution and not a backward theology solution. People need jobs and the country needs to build industries to employ them.

No time to waste on theology. Let it be handled by Mullahs.

I think the western world would be delighted if muslim countries are being run by Islamic clerics. Because it will make muslim countries more weaker.

Also remember one thing, extremism and fundamentalism is affecting muslims the most. No matter how much fundamentalist muslims become, at the end of the day muslims cannot do anything to Hindus, Christians and others. Muslims will be killing themselves.

Today if a country like Ethiopia or Kenya starts killing muslims still muslims cannot do anything about it @bluesky
