The new Prime Minister of Nepal K P Sharma Oli is “pro-China” and is “expected to keep closer ties” with the Communist nation despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to boost ties with it, according to the Chinese official media.

“[Prime Minister Narendra] Modi has made efforts to develop friendly relations with neighbouring countries since he came to office [in May last year]. This has contributed to the change of diplomatic landscape of South Asian nations,” an said an article in the State-runGlobal Times.

“Instead of keeping a distance from India, they [South Asian nations] are gradually moving to strike a balance between India and China. This is the broad regional environment Nepal is facing. Despite this, Kathmandu under Oli’s governance is expected to keep closer ties with Beijing,” added the article titled ‘Nepal warms toward China as new Beijing-friendly coalition takes power’

The article, written just five days after the new government took over in Nepal, said the previous coalition government headed by Nepali Congress Party was “customarily perceived as pro-India” while Mr. Oli is “pro-China”.

“Many Nepalese are very friendly and willing to cooperate with Beijing. Kathmandu, under Oli governance is expected to have close ties with Beijing which is to the benefits of both the nations,” it said.

Until CPN came to power, Nepal, mostly ruled by the NCP, was a “fervent follower of New Delhi while remaining tepid towards Beijing. However, CPN despite its short term in office, transformed the nation’s attitude towards India and China,” said the article written by Xu Liang, Executive Director at the India Studies Centre of the State-run Beijing International Studies University.

OK. So? What's the big deal? Does the Chinese media think that Nepal is soon going to become NAR (Nepal Autonomous Region of China) like Tibet and gradually allow PLA and PLAAF to establish bases there? Chinese media is funny, more than the rest!

Half of Nepalis work in India. How can they hate India. Only a few corrupt Nepalese politicians tilt towards China. Dont worry. Little sustained pressure from India & the country will come to halt.

Traditionally perhaps but recent overtures by India to Nepali internal issues have made majority of it's people skeptical about Indian intentions.. This similar story has been played throughout the region by India time to time.. The excuse being certain sections of the populations in sovereign nations with Indian heritage needs to protected, But lets not kid ourselves it's not about the interest of minorities of Indian background but of regional power and real politik.. Playing the the Tamil card with Sri Lanka, Bengali's in East Pakistan (Now Bangladesh) and now with Madhesi's in Nepal

Make note that in the long term non of those policies have helped India, Either in her status in the region or it's internal issues

Why should we care about whether they are pro India or Pro China .

If I was the PM of this country , I would work for the development of all citizens of this Country .
My objective will be to become number 1 in all good areas and disappearing from all bad lists .
Once that achieved , I will expand my good will in other nations .

I read somewhere that the new PM belongs to Communist ideology .
No wonder he is pro China

Wow india doesn't have a single neighbor that likes it, that's expected if india continues to meddle in the internal affairs of its neighbors.

India has a defence agreement with Nepal, where India will protect its borders. They day they revoke that then we can believe the orgasms of China or its news reports.
