A newly-formed alliance of nine Islamist parities has opposed Jamaat's call for a countrywide daylong hartal (shutdown) for Thursday.
Iman O Desh Rakkhar Andolan conveyed its decision at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity on Wednesday when it officially announced its launching.
Saying that they do not support Jamaats cause, leaders of the new alliance said they want trial for all crimes including war crimes that took place during the 1971 Liberation War.
Jamaat-e-Islami, on Wednesday, called the shutdown assuming that an "unjust punishment would be awarded" to its leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee for his alleged war crimes.
Members of the new alliance are: Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, Islami Oikya Jote, Nejame Islami Bangladesh, Khelafat Islami, Bangladesh Farayeji Andolan and Jamiyate Olamaye Islam.
Addressing the press conference, Iman O Desh Rakkhar Andolan leaders demanded blocking publication of write-ups by atheist bloggers and punishment to them; putting an end to ill-attempts to ban religion-based politics in the country, repression on alem-ulemas and fascist pressure on "Islami-minded media"; and immediate release of leaders and activists of the parties who were arrested during Friday's violence.
The alliance will hold a rally at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on March 8 to press home their six-point demand, Noor Hossain Kasemi, convenor of the coalition, said while reading out written statement.
