Dhaka, Feb 9 (bdnews24.com)Hours before the new Election Commission (EC) was sworn in, Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia gave the panel a thumbs-down by calling it a "puppet".
"This commission is a puppet of the government, so we do not accept the new Election Commission. The people will not accept this commission," she said during a programme at the National Press Club here on Thursday.
Khaleda also said the opposition party would issue a "warning" to the government with a "peaceful" rally in the capital on Mar 12.
Chief justice Mohammad Mozammal Hossain began administering oath to the chief election commissioner and three of the four commissioners of the newly formed Election Commission just after 4.30pm at the judges' lounge.
President Mohammad Zillur Rahman appointed them on Wednesday.
The BNP has continuously said it does not support the reconstitution of EC before reinstating the caretaker government system.
On Thursday, the BNP chief reiterated at the annual programme of Bangladesh Federal Journalists Union that EC can only be reformed after reinstating the interim government system.
She also criticised the Sheikh Hasina government's activities in the last three years in office.
Khaleda warned that any attempt by the government to thwart BNP's peaceful March 12 programme, or announce counter-programmes, would be a "grave mistake".
She said the government would have to bear the responsibilities if any unwanted situations arise during the party's programme next month.
Around 4,000 guests from across the country and 145 elected members of Federal Journalists Union took part in the annual counsel programme.

Looks like the next election is going to be seriously rigged also with electronic voting machines.
