Five employees of B-Technology, a Teletalk-contracted company to set up and maintain their towers, were rescued from Merung area under Dighinala upazila of Khagrachari early Friday, 18 days after being kidnapped, Rangamati police said. After being informed by locals, Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) of Bangladesh rescued them at about 2 am, superintendent of police in Rangamati Amena Begam told New Age Online. Army personnel, Police and Border Guard Bangladesh also took part in the rescue operation, Amena added. She also said that they had been taken to DGFI headquarters in Rangamati at about 7:00am. DGFI officials said the rescued employees were in good health. The rescued include assistant engineer Akter Hosen, 26, technician Hemayet Hosen, 26, and Imrul Hasan, 27, supervisors Sujauddin, 32, and Mujibur Rahman. On July 8, six employees were kidnapped by some armed miscreants from Baribindughat area under Baghaichari upazila of Rangamati. The kidnappers later demanded Tk 40 lakh in ransom. Local B-Technology employee Montu Chakma was released on the night of the incident. On Sunday, Chakma along with Hironmoy Chakma, a boatman of Baribindughat, were arrested and taken into remand on suspicion of being involved with the kidnapping. The recovery of the B-Technology employees followed information extracted from the arrested.
