New Delhi has world's most toxic air

Where the hell other capital cities stand in front of New delhi....You forget beijing has even worst record. What a retard you are...

China has a pollution problem yes.

But we are the manufacturing base of the world. So it is understandable that we will have a pollution problem, that's a part of the mass industrialization phase. In return we are building up our infrastructure to world class levels, which is essential if we are ever to become a developed country one day.

Ironically, despite being the manufacturing base of the world, China's air pollution is much lower than India's.

So instead of bashing us, maybe try to find out why your pollution is so bad despite the lack of manufacturing.

70 years, from a survey done in 2006. It should be higher now.

It says 70-73 I think for New Delhi. I don't understand what the issue is then. As long as people are not dieing quicker it shouldn't matter too much.

PM isn't the only measure of air pollution.

According to the US embassy data, the situation in Bejing seems just as grim if not worse!

On Thursday, levels of PM2.5 particulates, which are the most hazardous to health, rose to 568 micrograms per cubic metre. according to the US embassy.

The WHO recommends a maximum of 25 micrograms per cubic metre.

Its not about dying quicker, people would live longer if it wasn't for the pollution. But its a necessary evil for any developing country, pollution that is, with all the construction work that is going around in Delhi am not surprised at such high PM concentration in the air. Not to forget the growing number of cars, Delhi adds about 1400 new cars every single day on its road. It will get better eventually.

Take Metro for example, it involves heavy civil construction, major source of dust and pollution, but once the metro construction is finished it will help take cars of the road.

I cannot imagine if modi turns india into a manufacturing base country. Half the indian might die of pollution.

Until now some indian still cannot accept reality and still continue smoke up false data to make themselves feel better.
Fancy you quote US embassy? That is the root
Of all China smearing. When did US embassy Become expert in health matters?

If you think WHO data does not know how to collect data the right way and make a decent report. Who knows? Indian health organization?

Indian cities are usually dírty and nasty in general.

Dude shut up, am not here for dick measuring contests and unlike you I have no issues accepting the reality. Delhi is polluted, the air, the water, the soil, its pretty bad. But so is Beijing and other Chinese cities.

Mind telling me if there is no pollution in Chinese cities and Beijing, then why your government is banning all these activities?

On Wednesday, the government said it would ban the construction of new oil-refining, steel, cement and thermal power plants starting from March, state-run newspaper China Daily said.
As for the WHO data which you keep harping about, I can only comment on it once i see the dataset.

If you look at every benchmark, from wealth to development to TFR, Punjab is the best state in India. Shame we have to be tied down to madrassis and bhaiyya.

I have checked the links from 2014 report from World Health Organization (WHO) which looked at the air pollution levels of 1,600 cities across 91 countries. Based on PM2.5 reading (considered the best indicator of assessing health impacts from air pollution and examines the concentration of fine particulate pollution of 2.5 micrometers or less in diameter), their results are as below:

Out of the 1,600 cities surveyed, top 20 cities with highest PM 2.5 are as below:
  1. Delhi, India: 153
  2. Patna, India: 149
  3. Gwalior, India: 144
  4. Raipur, India: 134
  5. Karachi, Pakistan: 117
  6. Peshwar, Pakistan: 111
  7. Rawalpindi, Pakistan: 107
  8. Khoramabad, Iran: 102
  9. Ahmedabad, India: 100
  10. Lucknow, India: 96
  11. Firozabad, India: 96
  12. Doha, Qatar: 93
  13. Kanpur, India: 93
  14. Amritsar, India: 92
  15. Ludhiana, India: 91
  16. Igdir, Turkey: 90
  17. Narayonganj, Bangladesh: 89
  18. Allahabad, India: 88
  19. Agra, India: 88
  20. Khanna, India: 88
Well I don't have any more comments on the WHO report which should be authoritative enough to gauge this agenda of global air pollution. As some cities from China are also quite high on the list (Lanzhou the worst Chinese city at #36, Urumqi #61, Xi'an #70, Xining #72, Beijing #76), I guess that's a price to pay for 3 decades of massive industrialization and infrastructure spree (I have written a thread specific on infrastructure, e.g. China is using 48.5% of world's steel, and 58% of concrete), and more efforts are needed to revamp the situation.
