It does not meet our requirements because we face a diffrent type of missile threat compared to Israel.

Really? It seems like it would be a good fit for the Army in the north, especially against Chinese and Pakistani Artillery.

Maybe it could be a option but we have to wait and see what the future holds. At one point India was intrested in Arrow 2 but nothing came of it so it will be intresting to see if India will go for such a purchase from Israel.



The sources added that Israel was open to sales of David's Sling, but that it would not transfer the system's technology as part of a deal.

An Indian Ministry of Defense official said that neither its aging Russian-built air defense systems nor the PAD system can serve as the country' sole line of defense against potential missile threats from Pakistan or China.



He said that the procurement of David's Sling or the Iron Dome would be a "pleasure".

what will be the use of this shield it 3-4 nuclear explosions take place surrounding delhi?

The basic fact being u cannot protect each and every corner of ur nation when the area it cover is so vast,some corners will be left undefended,but again the hostile missiles will not be targeting(especially nuke tipped)those less prominent undefended corners because that would not be worthy and u are also inviting a retaliation,the rule being they also want the same territory u r so eager to defend,te prime thrust will be on the biggest manufacturing hubs,the biggest cities,not some tier 3 or tier 4 cities.

Also it does not mean by placing a sheild in delhi it is only defending the air space of Delhi,it depends on the interception range.

davids sling is not a ABM it is a SAM designed to shoot down cruise missiles AAD can already preform that role see page 1 for pictures

I suspect it will be for major cities like Delhi/Mumbai and strategic military bases

2014 means 2020, as per track record of DRDO. And, they can only deploy for New Delhi. Don't understand what they are doing last 10 years. What India needs Threate missile defence to protect all Western and Norther borders.

i think we should go for national missile defense to protect the entire country from missile attack including the Anadaman and Nicobar islands as well as the North East

If we have a sea based system like Aegis it can also help our AMB but im not sure if India will go for this

Ideally i would like to see

1) Iron dome
2) David's sling
3) Arrow 3
4) Aegis
5) S-400/500 system from Russia + our own systems to protect us.

If we have a sea based system like Aegis it can also help our AMB but im not sure if India will go for this

we really need missiles that can intercept missiles of the 3,000km+ range for Pakistan but against China we need missiles that can intercept targets up to 8,000km away the Russian S-500 would easily be good for that
