In USA ticket prices have gone up to 500-800 dollars reason being 40-55% price is airport/security tax

The tax in Pakistan is relatively low

no no, in taxes on tickets. For example my NYC-BOM ticket was $3735 of which 765 was tax...a bit over >20%.
To compare, how much was the ticket price you paid on which your tax was $70?

ticket price normally includes airport charges and fees, so to compare you should express all taxes and fees as a percentage of ticket price. If you want to know if a particular airport's fee is too much or too litlle, you should compare with other airports with similar volumes and type of flights.

IF that is the case it sounds high BUT not at all too much. Some taxes are a percentage of ticket price (charged by airline) and others are fixed per head fee. The total you pay is all of this. So if you got a discount airline ticket for $100 (normal average is say 150) then the fixed fee will seem too high proportionately.

And of the $70 tax you should look at how much is actual airport related - probably is a small number, rest being tax paid to the govt (equivalent of sales tax, fuel surchrge etc).

I have bought tickets where the ticket cost was LESS than the tax&fee component!

Another VERY important thing to remember about sub-continental airports is that they are used by desis. Which means the level of hygiene conscience is low. They throw stuff about, they spit, they abuse toilettes, they sneeze without protection, they use chewing tobacco and snuff, they smoke, they let children cause litter, they try to carry their entire kitchen as cabin baggage and an years' supply of groceries in check-in baggage....

so these airports (assuming karachi airport and people or like delhi mumbai etc) need a LOT of people to clean, operate and safeguard. You people should be therefore paying MORE airport charge for your own behavior!

"Just now I paid this Airport Tax at Alma Iqbal International Airport.
The behavior of the officer was very strange. First he asked me 1000 Pakistan Rupee per person. But I was having only RS.2980.
He took them but when I asked about the invoice, he started drama etc.
But I kept insisting for the invoice. After waisting a lot of time he gave me money back and told me to pay to cashier.
Surprisingly, cashier took only RS.2850.
Really, I felt very bad about that situation.
Just want to inform all to must ask them about invoice.
As the airport officers are playing with innocent people.
Even, when I tried to register complain, they told me that it will be useless.

Airport tax
Can somebody told me how 950 pak rupees comes up for Airport. Tax because we are German national(I and my 5 family members) but i have origion Form Pakistan, Holding German Passport we buy the Tickets on 14 july and i flew back on 04 09 2015.
And i pay for whole Of my family 6 persons
5700 pak rupee.
Which is for me strange.

Your tax is used to pay salaries and perks of parliamentarians and senators and later their pensions and never ending privileges.

This is why Pakistan is the most taxed state in the whole world.

If Pakistanis, want to get rid of tax, they need to say good bye to politicians.

I am not sure the way they implement this is fine or not, but i definitely support tax on Business/First class tickets. i mean, a common man doesn't travel in them so that shouldn't affect him. Introduce a Withholding Tax on the ticket bookings. If you provide your tax number and details at the booking or airport, you can get your tax back. Simple.

We need to force all these haramkhor and chor businessmen into paying.

Busisness class ticket is not exclusively for a businessman. I had to travel many times during my education on business class tickets due to the unavailability of seats in the economy class. To tax businessmen, income and the wealth taxes should be used by the govt.

The worst thing about this airport tax is that one has to pay in Pak Rs which is a shame. This has been imposed create troubles for overseas Pakistanis because they mostly support PTI. The mindless, shameless, hairless and humanity-less rulers of Pakistan are bent upon making the experience of visiting Pakistan a trip to hell. First of all our airports are already not upto the international standards, especially if one has checked in luggage....no way to find out when will it arrive...and then porters.....they chase you like AIM9L and all CFD and countermeasures are useless...then they lie...I had to pay him Rs 800 for some unknown fee he paid for me and there was no receipt either. Since I did not had PKR 800 lying in my wallet, I had to wait until my brother, who was also delayed by the idiots of security, arrived to pick me....As a common man one has no respect in Pakistan...you have to show some references for everything....a precarious situation for unsuspecting overseas Pakistani who has been away from his motherland for a long time and became used to the western life style. And now this tax......How can I invite my foreigner friends to visit Pakistan while I myself do not have a great experience.

Are you harassed by immigration or customs on your arrival? Back in the 1980s and 90s when I had an Indian passport, I would be harassed by Indian custom officials for bribes. Had to pay something, or they take their sweet time checking your bags.
