Nepali leader says India 'breaking international law'

India asks Nepal to solve crisis, warns against ‘China card’ | india | Hindustan Times

India and China have been in touch and discussed the Nepal situation after a political crisis broke out in the country with the promulgation of the new constitution. Delhi is also confident that that the effort of a section of the Nepali political elite to play the ‘China card’ will not succeed.

Top sources in the Indian diplomatic and security establishment have told HT that India and China have often shared views on Nepal in Kathmandu, Delhi and Beijing.

The Indian ambassador and Chinese ambassador in Nepal meet at regular intervals, both separately and in meetings of ambassadors convened by the UN resident coordinator. This is a part of India’s broader engagement with the international community.

In the wake of continuing unrest in Nepal after the constitution, Delhi and Beijing have ‘engaged at various levels’, said a source. “Views have been exchanged and we both hope for a quick resolution of differences through dialogue and stability in Nepal.”

Relations between Kathmandu and New Delhi are going through a difficult phase, and supplies across the border have been completely disrupted. Kathmandu has termed it an unofficial Indian blockade, while Delhi has insisted that domestic protests within Nepal have caused the disruption.

A section of the Nepali leadership has signalled its willingness to play the ‘China card’ and explored possibility of assistance from the northern neighbour. But Indian officials say they are not worried, and confidently assert that the card will not work. “They are trying to send a message but this is not a very credible message,” said sources.

For one, the key northern border crossings are closed after the earthquake and it is unlikely this can be reopened. The approaching winter will not make it easy either. “Geography and costs make it unsustainable for Nepal to rely on China,” said a government official.

India feels the key issue is the strategic balance. China may want to use certain constituencies in Nepal but would not like the balance to be disturbed beyond a point. Even if there are few symbolic gestures, China, said an official, is aware that it cannot be a substitute for India in Nepal.

“Look this is not about India vs China. It is about the Nepali political leadership finding a quick resolution to the domestic strife. We would strongly advise them to look within and resolve issues rather than play games which won’t go far,” a source said.

Indian always over play their card in the end shooting themselves in the foot. This blockade will turn the Nepalese folks very upset with the Indians.

Nepalese folks need to work out alternate energy source, which will inevitably bring China in the equation.

They will have to dig a tunnel through the Himalayas for that !

The problem with Nepali leadreship is they are overplaying their China card. Why cry foul when India blocks the supplies? Why cant they just ask China for help ? Who is stopping them ?

.
I think India shouldn't say anything now and protesters should keep protesting till Nepal's supplies get over. Then lets see where Nepali government goes, to India or protesters. Right now they can blame India while ignoring the fact that there is a large population of their own people protesting and blocking.

No digging required,

Its a high probably that the road is much safer to travel with better infrastructure.

Nepalese are just minding their business trying to improve their own nation. They will go to whoever they need to improve as the Sri Lankans do.

The classic Indian insecurity !!

India should allow fuel trucks at least to pass through the border imho

It's a matter between India and Nepal, Your comments hold no value here.

If we send fuel trucks, then those blood thirsty Nepali scums will set fire to them and then blame India
I say let Nepalis die
Let them demand humanitarian aid from the worlds

Indian trucks carrying food and fuel have begun trickling into Nepal, which is grappling with shortages caused by a blockade during protests by people angry about the country’s new constitution

Most of them will run to India and become chaukidars in any case.

Time for Nepal to understand that Modi is much more strong willed than any previous Indian PM.

The sooner they realise and re-conciliate with the concerns of citizens bordering near India, it will be better for all.

Playing China card may not yield anything for Nepal for now.

INDIA is like HELL on Earth...............Even NEPALI people are not happy with them......:sniper:

Oh dharmic brotherhood and all is fine
Its not going fine...Check the attitude of your so called darmic brotherhood posters from our neighboring Srilanka like Buddhist 'samv 'etc...The one and only pro Indian poster from Srilanka is a non darmic Sinhalese ""Christian""...99.99% of pro Indian posters here are either Christians or Muslims...

It is going on more than fine. Nepal declared itself Hindu state and that is enough for the time being. Wont stop it from getting *** kicked from us, but then hey big brothers are there for that purpose only. Sri Lanka is dharmic through and through and in fact militantly so. The fact though is India is not counting on support of either Nepal or Sri Lanka for its dharmic brotherhood support from these states. India remains the biggest dharmic land in the world as well as the most populous. It would be silly of us to look at puny Nepal and Sri Lanka for support.

I do not know of any Sri Lankan poster who is pro-India. It does not matter to me much either. I hardly follow their politics or comment on them much, except for slapping down that fellow Gibbs when he makes his usual snarky remarks against India. Else I am not much bothered about them, neither pro nor against.

Nepal under Pahari dominance is a communist atheist state. India must support Madhesi people in the Terai plain of South Nepal and help them achieve independence.

India does support Madhesi people though I do not think it will ever advocate for bifurcation of Nepal. Let us see where this goes.
