Nepal will never have to face blockade again: DPM Pokahrel

- Anuj Kumar Adhikari, Beijing
Oct 27, 2018-

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ishwor Pokharel has said that Nepal will not have to face blockade again in the future as it has successfully signed connectivity protocols with China.

“We have faced border blockade on numerous occasions in the past, but now with the enhancement of connectivity with China, we don’t have to face such black day again,” said Minster Pokharel.

Minister Pokharel was addressing Nepali community in Beijing who had gathered to celebrate the Nepali festivals Dashain, Tihar, Nepal Sambat and Chhath on Friday evening. The programme was organised by Embassy of Nepal in China.

Saying that the Nepal is a landlocked country, the DPM said that the nation should utilise all the privileges that a land-locked country have. “Based on this concept, we have formed a roadmap to open border points and enhance connectivity with China to utilise all those facilities,” he added.

He, however, said that this does not mean that Nepal is inclined to one country and has gone against another. “We may change everything but not our neighbor,” said the minister.

He stressed that Nepal should maintain balanced relationship with India and China and continue to act as an independent and sovereign nation.

Recalling Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s China visit in 2016 and 2018 which have added new dimensions on Nepal’s trade, transit and connectivity with China and the third-country, the DPM said that Nepal will now focus on implementating of those agreements and protocols.

Minister Pokharel attended the defence ministerial-level 8th Beijing Xiangshan Forum in Beijing on Friday.

So even Maoists forced to face reality that at best they can have equal relations with India & China and will never be able to become Chinese ally thanks to Indian influence.

Indeed.

India as such a great influence on nepal, despite the latter being on the former's side of the himalayas whereby soldiers can march easily across the porous border- that nepal gave a ''f**k u bi**h' speech to India in the embrace of China thats on the other side of the himalayas instead. Shows the amount of respect nepal has for India.

Its like a wife taking a selfie of her with her peace sign-showing lover in a cheap motel and sending it to her husband

Thanks.

PS *peace*

haha, feel-good post for feel-good comments. The level of influence is unfathomable. I hope China gives some freebies and develop Nepal. The open border only favors Nepal, as development comes to Nepal, we will in turn benefit from it.

You can't hide your frustration with the word "unfathomable"...there is no such thing and you know it. Nepalese people hate you Gangadeshis but they had no other option due to their geography but now with China's help, they have found an alternative and now gradually they will divert their trade.

Having feels about Afghanistan dear Pakistani?;)
This is India - Nepal man. China saves the day is one fanboy daydream. Our relationship with Nepal is as good as ever. Perks of having an open border and Neutral relationship is there will be a lot of politicians who have one way or other connection with India. That's not including the Nepalese in Indian army.

A Pakistani will be the last person to be here, need I remind you of the ISI kabootar who magically disappeared in Nepal?:lol:
