Kathmandu, Nov 13: The Nepal government on Monday scrapped the contract for the construction of Budhi Gandaki hydropower project which was awarded to China’s Gejuwa Group citing irregularities and lack of transparency. Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa took to twitter to inform that as directed by the parliamentary committees, the project has been scrapped. “The agreement marred by irregularities with the Chinese company – Gejuwa Group regarding the construction of Budhi Gandaki hydropower project has been scrapped in a cabinet meeting as directed by the parliamentary committees,” he said in his tweet as translated by ANI.

Budhi Gandaki Hydropower Project was granted to the Gezhouba Water & Power (Group) Co Ltd (CGGC) company one and half year ago by the then Maoist-led government headed by the Former Prime Minsiter Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda). The then Minister for Energy Janardan Sharma had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on June 4 in that regard.

Earlier it was reported that, if constructed, the Budhi Gandaki hydro power was most likely to displace 3,560 households and 8,117 families in Dhading. The project was estimated to cost Rs 250 billion.

OH MY GAWD!!! If something similar happened to a contract involving Indian company then all the hell would have fallen, "India has been thrashed by a small Nepal" "Nepal thrashes the regional hegemon" "bluah" "bluuaah" "bluuuuuuuuuaaaaaaahhhhh".......

Ahh, the Indian factor at play again. Well, it's a long term game, you lose some, you win some. Ultimate losers are the Nepalis, they still haven't learn their lesson from the Indian fuel blockade. Well, the communist might win the next elections or China can instigate a coup. Just like Bhutan, it's futile to go against China, India will just abandon you.

Blockade was by Nepal's own people who live in the plains because of injustice by the majority hill people, ultimately they were forced to amend their constitution and peace was restored

And yet we have listen to Indian Bluuah Bluuuuah bluuuuuuuah constantly no matter what happens. Indians are the victims of the world. Quit whining.

Nepal scrapped the project. Contractor was Chinese. End of story.

Now indian stooge "Nepali Congress" regime in power which is executing last acts as india asked to do. BUT after next election, which is next year, left leaning alliance expected to be in power with overwhelming majority. Then not only dam but also many other projects will be undertaken.

Indian were watching nervously and finally let go of a big sigh of relief. I can imagine the overwhelming suffocating feeling Indian are experiencing from all fronts as exerted by the omnipresent Chinese influence, from Bengali-dash to Pakistan to Sri Lanka and now Nepal. A small Chinese setback as result of furious and desperate Indian lobbying on Nepal won't turn the tide.

Typical butthurt sore loser mindset of whining and crying about the Indian bogeyman on losing.

At this rate one day Chinese members on this forum will blame India for their existence.

There is no evidence of any protest from Indian Govt of any form.

Probably delicate bruised ego makes it too difficult to accept the possibility there was no consensus on the Nepali Govt side or the Chinese firm could have screwed up.

Have some shame and learn to accept your shortcomings rather than blaming others.

Sure, go check how many dams we completed for the Nepalis and how many India completed on their 'promised' dams.
