Hi guys!

I'm having a problem here.

I have my TOEFL coming up and I'm having trouble in the speaking section.

Has anyone here taken the TOEFL?

Now my English is not bad but the thing is that when I sit down to speak in front of the computer, I start to fumble. Words just seem to stick to my tounge. I'm practicing but can't see much improvement and there's little time left.

A word of advice will be greatly appreciated.

Read English orally for instance newspapers, and try to speak to yourself in English as much as you can.

Could you please give your sectionwise breakup?

How did you practice?

My writing and listening part was good enough. For speaking part, i tried watching daily soaps in Star World and tried to fake their accent. Didn't worked though.

I guess i got 24 in speaking.

I scored high enough on my SATs and Aced everyone (ok..nearly everyone) of my English Exams...but fluency has always eluded me ! Try this...it might help : From this day on till your exam date...consciously force yourself to converse in English and English alone....it took care of my stutter.

Well, speaking in front of the mirror might help. I have seen my dad practice his presentations that way.

Well your written English is very good mate. All I can suggest is practice spoken English

Lolz, I forgot most of you guys on pdf have accents. Go to the bathroom, or in front of a mirror and read a passage of a book as if you're making a speech.

Listen to VoA broadcasts and read aloud the transcripts as close to the original. Pay special attention to "v" and "w", "th", and "t" and "d" sounds. Roll out the "r"s softly. Smooth out the soft sound after a hard consonant such as "six". Practice. Practice. Practice.
