Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA News) - A search and rescue team in Aceh has evacuated around 150 people believed to be from Myanmar who were stranded in North Aceh waters on Sunday.

The chief of the Aceh search and rescue agency, Budiawan, when asked to confirm the report said that the evacuation was carried out at around 9am.

"On Sunday morning, a SAR team evacuated 150 foreigners reported to be stranded in the Malacca Strait waters in North Aceh," he said.

He said the evacuation was carried out following a report from the SAR post in Langsa. The SAR post in Langsa received information about a wooden boat calling for help in North Aceh waters.

Following the report a SAR team then departed to the location where the boat was and they found more than one hundred foreigners there.

"The evacuation was carried out in two batches with the first consisting of 80 and the second 70 people due to a limited capacity of the rescue boat." he said.

The people were then checked with regard to their health condition and immigration matters.

"We only evacuated them. The 150 foreigners were then referred to the immigration office for a further process," he said.

Malaysian ruling coalition is weak this coming election, I seriously doubt they will concede some votes in Sarawak and Sabah.

There already is an estimated 600,000 undocumented Filipinos living in Sabah, which is already almost equal to native Malaysians in Sabah. This does not account for also a large number of undocumented Indonesians living in Sabah, whose numbers exceed 100,000. I also remember reading several years ago that the ruling government in Sabah even granted Malay status to some of the Filipinos as well as Indonesians, granting them Malaysian citizenship. In fact, Mahathir actually granted citizenship to thousands of Filipinos in Sabah as a way to tap into the potential voter base, which has, largely, proven to be very effective in regards to local state politics.

Now on the issue of settling Rohingyas and Bangladeshis in say Sabah and Sarawak, would this not be a way for the ruling government to tap into a potential voter base? After all, give it a generation or so, and the Bangladeshis and Rohingya can be .... assimilated. Just as how the Filipinos and Indonesians were.

Indonesian navy assists migrant boat, sends it to Malaysia

Indonesia's navy provided food, water and medical supplies to around 500 passengers from Myanmar late on Monday, before sending the migrant boat across the Malacca Strait towards Malaysia, a military spokesman said.
Four Indonesian navy vessels offered the assistance to the passengers on the migrant boat near the cape of Tanjung Jambu Aye in north Aceh.

"The passengers were still alive and in good condition," said Navy spokesman Manahan Simorangkir.

"They were seeking help and they didn't want to go to Indonesia. They wanted to go to Malaysia, so we sent them on their way after providing them with food, water and medical supplies."

More than a thousand Bangladeshi and Rohingya refugees have arrived in Malaysia and Indonesia following a crackdown on trafficking by Thailand, which is usually the first destination in the region's people smuggling network.

Maybe they can settle Sarawak and Sabah?
No way, i don't want to share my resources with outsider. Yes, i am selfish.
If they want a change, do it in their own country. We got shxt to fix internally.

Or they can try to go Australia again and become 'their' political football...

Nobody knew what Mahathir did until it was too late. There are dissatisfaction within the BN coalition on this issue. Judging on the political climate, they wont risk it. If Malaysia take in 1 person, 100 person will come. Japan should welcome them instead.
