On topic: Lets hope the crisis solve quickly as its Ramadan and also Hospitals dont have backup for too long.... Back in 90s my father had operation in torch lights because of power grid failure and backup generator problems.

When does a grid collapse?

A grid collapses when the frequency falls below the lower limit of the (49.5-50.2Hz) band or increases beyond the upper limit. As a result, transmission lines stop accepting power supply and other grid constituents, including the generating stations, go offline.

If India uses SCADA systems that are IP based to monitor/operate power grids, then Yes!

90% i doubt this since SCADA systems are expensive and Indian power Grids mostly operated or monitored through older legacy systems which have no relation with TCP/IP Protocal.

As a matter of fact, only recently our ONGC has migrated to SCADA systems.

the main reason cited for these grid failing is that when a state is allocated a certain amount of power(UP 6.500 MW) the should not exceed it and draw only that much . UP drew up to 10k MW yesterday resulting in the collapse of the northern grid . the same will have happened today .
