Yes..what really mattered to them was the liberation of their homeland. If I correctly remember, many Ukranians, Latvians and others from former Soviet Republics changed side during WW2 as they were fed up of Communism & Soviets. But in the end they had to pay a heavy price for their 'treachory'.

Britain and its policies in India and other colonies, US nuclear bombings of JAPAN, killing of millions of innocents in German cities in air raids during 1944/45 when the war was almost won by the Allies are equally criminal acts in my book. History is always written by the victors
It was ww2 that finally broke Britains' back as a world superpower and it lost its colonies.
