The Sharif family were tagged for some $60 million owed to Pakistani banks and do remember his company Ittefaq Group went bankrupt in early 90's.

During his second terms, he manipulated economic policies for his own benefits. he got over $100 million from unsecured loans, took some money from the highway projects, At least another $100 million from government rebates on Sugar exports, and wheat bought from the US.

He is a corrupt man, he looted the nation and should be hung.

Not to mention, his economic policies that he manipulated for personal gain, he cost the national economy.
he is incompetent too, even if he had a bit of good in him, he couldn't possibly run this nation.

Lastly, I'll end by saying, Sharif and Bhutto are not political parties/families.
They are family businesses, their only motive is profit!

Doesn't matter how or where he looted, fact is, he did.
I have some examples in my reply above.

He is a corrupt man and should be at least put behind bars for the rest of his life for crimes against the state and it's people.

The question should not be focused on why such extravagance cannot be utilized...but does beg the question how it was financed. Sharif family prior to Politics was a small business family, with no real significance like the Habib or Hashboo group. He only became powerful with the help of Zia. You cannot take this stolen money to your grave, and I would rather make halal money..if not then at least a poor man in the eyes of Allah has more mercy.

Nawaz being rich or not, but why a person doing politics in Pakistan should have properties outside the country? Its because its illegal money and is invested in a safe place to save the loot.

The original money came from Pakistan and that too through illegal channels. BBC has a documentary on it.

Their industries were denationalized by Zia as they were willing to go along Zia's policies in exchange for getting their properties back.

They have been rich? My foot! This is all ill gotten money. If you are old enough, you might remember when Nawaz became PM for the first time how he forced SROs' to import steel for his industries. This is corruption to me. Benazir reversed those SROs' when she became PM. Later when Nawaz became PM, he reversed them again. This see saw of SROs was famously called 'SRO wars'. And it was done to save personal interests only. Nawaz doing it for personal gain and Benazir being a typical feudal was vindictive when reversing those SROs.

In this petty war, both of them destroyed the ship breaking industry.
