Political activity starts as nomination date nears
ISLAMABAD, Sep 28 (APP): With the date for submitting nomination papers for by-polls nears, political activity has started in the respective constituencies. Voters of five National and Provincial Assemblies seats would be electing their representatives from these constituencies where long awaited by-election will be held on November 7.
Chief Election Commissioner Hamid Ali Mirza had announced t hold by-polls in three National Assembly constituencies; NA-55 Rawalpindi-VI, NA-123 Lahore-VI and NA-271 Kharan-cum-Washuk-cum-Panjgur and two Punjab constituencies; PP-82-Jhang-X and PP-284 Bahawalnagar-VIII.
According to schedule, date for submitting nomination papers with the Returning Officer by the candidates is just two days away as intending candidates would be filing their papers from September 30 to October 3.
Scrutiny of nomination papers by the Returning Officer will be held between October 5 to 7.
Last date for filing of appeals against decisions of the Returning Officer about rejecting or accepting the nomination papers has been set for October 12 and last date for deciding appeals by the Tribunal will be October 16.
Last date for withdrawal of candidature has been set for October 17, publication of revised list of candidates will be made on October 18 and polling will be held on November 7.
Election Commission has clarified that for candidates of NA-55 Rawalpindi-VI, NA-123 Lahore-VI and PP-82 Jhang-X, who have already submitted nomination papers, it should not be necessary to file fresh nomination forms or make deposit under Section 13 of the Representation of the People Act, 1976.
