Islamabad: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is leaving here Monday on a three-day official visit to Turkey during which the two countries will sign several memorandum of understanding (MoUs) and agreements for enhancing bilateral cooperation in different fields.

He will meet Turkish President Abdullah Gul and hold formal talks with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The two prime ministers will co-chair in Ankara the third meeting of the High Level Cooperation Council, a platform to give a long-term strategic direction to bilateral relations between the two countries, officials said.

Turkey has stood up for us every single time. This is a nation we share history with as well as a shared future.

Turkey should be given a 'blank cheque' to operate unrestricted in all areas of our economy as well as a fully functional military relationship.

Our relations with Turkey are 'weather proof' ... It needs to stay that way. Turkey can help us reach our potential as a robust, high growth, industrial economy backed by a strong mineral resource sector.

I hope this visit is the begining of a new chapter for our 'twin nations'.
