ISLAMABAD - In a dramatic development, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) prime minister-designate Nawaz Sharif decided not to reside at the Prime Minister (PM) House after officially taking oath as the premier and has instead decided to shift to the residence allocated for speaker of the National Assembly (NA).
Following Sharifs decision, renovation of the PM House has been stalled while that of the speaker's official residence has been initiated, Pakistan Today has learnt reliably.
A well-placed source privy to the developments told Pakistan Today that Nawaz Sharif, who was the brainchild behind the luxurious PM Secretariat, has bitter memories of the 1999 coup when he had been arrested unceremoniously and was later handcuffed and shifted to different jails.
"Due to bitter memories in connection with the PM House, Nawaz Sharif has ordered not to reside at the residence designated for the premier of the country. He has decided to shift to the NA speaker's residence and renovations there have started," the source added.
The source further said under the changed scenario, the guard of honour for the caretaker PM had been delayed and now Khoso would be shifted to Balochistan House instead of going to Quetta on Thursday (today).
A spokesman of the PM House said Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso would be staying in Islamabad till the new premier takes oath. The spokesman was responding to reports appearing in media that the caretaker PM is leaving for Quetta on Thursday.
The spokesman said Khoso will be relocated in Islamabad to facilitate renovation of the PM House.
He expressed the hope that this clarification would remove misunderstandings regarding the stay of the prime minister. - See more at: Nawaz not to stay at PM House | Pakistan Today | Latest news | Breaking news | Pakistan News | World news | Business | Sport and Multimedia
