ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is scheduled to meet his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in Ufa, Russia.

"PM Nawaz Sharif's schedule for a bilateral meeting at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit is being worked out," FO spokesman Qazi Khalilullah told DawnNews.

Both premiers will be meeting on the sidelines of the summit which will be held in Russia on July 9 and 10, an FO source said.

Modi is expected to raise India’s concerns regarding terrorism, including the alleged mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attack Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi who was allowed to walk free in April, sources say.

Pakistan and India's presence at the summit comes as both countries have started the process of joining the security bloc led by China and Russia.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping said, "..India and Pakistan's admission to the SCO will play an important role in the SCO's development, it will play a constructive role in pushing for the improvement of their bilateral relations."

It is the first time the grouping has expanded since 2001.

Nothing substantial, Modi is on a weak wicket domestically. If there is shelling on the during or after the meeting then opposition parties would be all like while you were making friends with NS they were killing our soldiers on border.

I wonder what is the significance of resumption of hostilities on the border prior to this announcement. Seems to be the common feature whenever any peace overtures happen b/w India and Pakistan

1. Ties with Afganishtan since they themselves have accused Pakistan of attack on their parliament recently. Not commenting on the validity of accusation but stating that the picture is not rosy on the Afghan front.

2. India's connection with Karachi, please don't count your chicken's before they hatch. Wait for a report from UK FO or HO.
AFAIK Pakistan has written a letter to British Govt asking for details but no answer has been given in reply

Afghanistan and Taliban are conducting talks in Islamabad right now. It's all happening behind the scenes.

Well it's too early to say, Afghans don't put much stock in words, their simple if primitive reasoning is If Pakistan can control all of Taliban and deliver peace then OK otherwise if Pakistan cannot control Taliban then what use they are of to us. Even you must have seen after each and every Taliban attack the blame is put by Afghans on Pakistan.

I don't honestly know, I hope India didn't meddle but if it did then it would be case of returning the favor. The person responsible of Mumbai attacks led a luxury life in your jail, had cell phone access, could meet anyone anytime and fathered a Child!! Since you believe BBC here is the report
