Navy officer sent secrets to Russian wife? Probe on - Times Of India

A Board of Inquiry (BoI) the Indian Navy constituted a year ago is looking into whether a commander-level officer passed on classified information to his Russian wife, sources said. In 2011, when the officer was in India, he communicated with his wife, who was in Russia, through a social networking site, sources said. It was suspected that he may have passed on secrets in such interactions.

The BoI was constituted in January 2012 after the officer, who is attached to the Western Naval Command (WNC), Mumbai , was found to have the classified information on his office computer. The secrets were not supposed to be on the computer, sources said. "The suspicion that some secrets had been passed through the computer was aroused and the Mumbai-based officer , along with two colleagues, was suspended ," said a source. The two allegedly knew the secrets were on the computer.

Looks like we have desi version of General Petraeus scandal (even if the mistress angle is missing).

But if allegations are found to be true, would be real shame on the IN and person involved.

.
Indian are easy to get in honey traps.

ISI put one of their Lt Colonels (a former naval attaché in Moscow) in a "compromised" position. You guys are too easy

(Of course these are just alleged. No evidence shows ISI was involved)

;)

Damn. This is ridiculous. Honey traps are such an easy ploy on ou defence members. Again not being proactive against such threats, only reactive.

.
what honey trap. The problem is not sharing this with his wife the major issue is sharing it on social networking site. man you guys have no knowledge.

What not has to be shared it is not shared and even if it is shared with family members it must not be somewhere from where it could be leaked.

One of the reasons the armed services frown upon officers marrying members of foreign nationals.
They can't whilst in service unless they take the requisite permissions from the AHQ and are cleared by various intel agencies. It's not easy.

Why the fuk is he sharing classified info with his fmaily members? That;s a major issue you fail to recognize. That is a problem, you haven no clue. Maybe the Indian govt has not made a rule, but that is a cause for concern buddy. As for honey traps, its common knowledge foreign women have been used to engage our men. Marriage serves long term objectives in some cases buddy. Think out of the box

I do not want to write much but I am 200% sure that it is about Not MUCH about giving info to his wife but sharing it through social media site. A professional trained person in Military would never do that because he knows this info can be leaked and remains for ever. Though sharing infos is not motivated but still family knows not every thing but minute things.

Weird news- AFAIK Indian military personal are not allowed to marry foreign nationals unless their partner choses to give up their nationality and become and Indian citizen. The recent case of an IA Signals officer and his SL fiancé highlights this. Additionally there are very strict restrictions imposed on serving Indian military so if this officer communicated via social network he has broken so many rules.

The Indian military is rightfully wary of foreigners and their interaction with serving military personal. It goes to the extent that any interaction a serving military personal has with a foreigner-no matter how minimal or how brief, has to be reported to the personal's superiors.
