NATO's missile offer to India: nothing to lose

India have finally arrived in the world stage. This is clearly a game changer and India must take this opportunity with both hands and hold on to it.:)

Did you intend innuendo with this statement or was that just accidental?

No friends...the reason of not being a part of NATO does not mean that we are going to fight with USA or NATO.The point is that do you seriously feel that NATO missile shield will protect from our nation insecurity of china and pakistan....In case china and pakistan really intends to go all out war with india they dont need to go with missile war...rather encouraging internal insurgency is most cost effective and best way to weaken india...which is already happening...and again...accept it or not...we as a nation has to live with our neighour like pakistan and china...not with any one else...this is a hard reallity....

Most likely Nato will tell India to finance the missile while Nato take control and operate its as how they did in Poland, they will reserve the right to intercept the incoming missiles or not...Beside China is not stupid, if Nato enlarge missle shield toward China boundary...We will definitely offer Nato something nightmare to be worry.

Its a good offer and India must accept this without a delay.

Hitting an incoming missile is a good achievement but detecting it before its launch is most preferable.

People worried about indigenous capability then being put on dormancy are just having baseless concerns.

India is still behind in long range detection, live feed satellite reconnaissance, CDL with its all telemetry assets and detection of movements of Ballistic missiles/nuclear arsenal of Pakistan and China. Most importantly NATO will provide us a network of their own radars and other installations situated in subcontinent and far.

Chinese are trying to listen American fleets in Indian ocean by going beyond Diego Garcia. They are not listening Americans to counter America but India. Any read of American fleet movement can give them good estimate of the time span they will engage with Indian navy and then run back.

Furthermore NATO listen to Chinese boomers day and night better than India. Such cooperation will make our job easy for the time being as our own submarine fleet is not to its optimum numbers.

We will need to take a side eventually. You quote pakistan as a case, but what about all the NATO countries. Are they doing as badly.

It is not necessary that we take a leaf out of someone's book each time when it comes to making a decision.Being non-aligned does not mean that we are in nobody's side.Rather ,it means we are in everybody's side,or we are with humanity. We don't fight other peoples' war where we have no stake.

We are welcome in Venezuela,Iran and US or Israel at the same time, because we do not interfere in others' business. We start taking sides and all that goes for a toss.

i say we should just procure S-500 systems and get TOT for license production.... with Russia there are no strings attached with America there is a whole bunch of BS which is why we rarely procure they're military equipment

How about taking your own side? India must never go into a war with China. Both Asian countries are catching up with the west, economically and technologically, after centuries of white domination. It rings alarm bells within Western think tanks and academic circles.

Our neighbours are ganging up on us. India is in a bad neighbourhood there might not be any immediate danger but our present actions will effect and safeguard future generations of Indians.

You are fooling no one:cheesy:

Our neighbours are ganging up on us. India is in a bad neighbourhood there might not be any immediate danger but our present actions will effect and safeguard future generations of Indians.

All developing countries are in bad neighborhood. China thinks the same way. Colonialists left SA and S-EA in a total mess of nationhood based on religious and ethnic divisions. This creates groupings among non-bordering neighbors against "common large neighbors".

Let me tell you a little story:
---------------
Native American Indians were divided into many small scattered nations - including some very powerful civilizations like the Aztecs - before the European invasion. When the Europeans discovered and started settling in the Americas, these small tribes/nation/civs could have easily repelled the colonialists by forming a massive alliance among themselves. As simple as it seems to us, the native tribes had a different mindset.
Each native tribe/nation thought of the neighbors to be as different from them as the newly settled Europeans. They had old rivalries among themselves, and thought it was a great idea to team up with the European forces against their old rivals. Europeans were always more then happy to lend their strength and get rid of some native tribe.
Then the Europeans would turn against their old friends with some new native allies. This kept going on, till the Europeans took control of the Americas as an unchallenged entity.
Even today, the natives here in North America are a very disadvantaged, underprivileged society.
-----------

Bottom line: Asian countries must not fight among themselves. Any short term territorial gain would be offset by long term instability, continued hostility and more aggressive arms race, all of which benefit only the continued supremacy of the West.

Seriously ... why there is so much mistrust with NATO or more specifically US. when does the last time US ditches her friends ? we all know the reasons with Pakistan but what about korea, japan, taiwan , middle east, europe etc..

Even russia is now having joint assignment with NATO. why we are so afraid of going with NATO. they provide the best weaponry and defence system.

US has so much stake in india... so many US multinationals are India. People need to see from economic perspective also. To pampering a segment of society for vote bank politics is a treason.

It's not so much of an anti-US sentiment than a non aligned stand. US can make a great Ally, but honestly as a nation still going through the development process, our priorities are vastly different from that of the US. US does not face those issues with it's other traditional allies. India-China and US-G8 have constantly been at loggerheads in trade and economic forums. There is bound to be a carry over effect on strategic military relations as well.
