NATO is monitoring the Russian Navy in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Some media reported last week that Russian vessels heading to Syria were carrying military equipment. Rosoboronexport denied the stories, noting that such technology was on board the ship Alayed, RIA Novosti reports.

NATO’s Orion planes are making more flights. More radio intelligence operations are being held.

A spokesman for the Russian military said that a group of Russian vessels of the Northern, Baltic and Black Sea Fleets would hold training sessions in the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean and Black Seas. The main goal is training joint actions under a single command.

Russia’s dry-cargo ship Alayed carries anti-missile complexes and repaired Mi-25 transport helicopters. It was detained off the shores of Scotland on June 18. The ship had to return to the Kola Gulf. United Nordic Shipping A/S (Denmark), which was chartering the Alayed under Russia’s Femco, cancelled the deal. Standard Club (UK) confirmed that the Femco ship lost its insurance. Femco chose Murmansk Port.

The conflict in Syria has been going on for over a year. Reports on civilian deaths are regular, despite implementation of the ceasefire plan of Kofi Annan, special envoy of the UN and LAS, in April.
